CareTrust REIT Promotes COO Sedgwick to President

CareTrust REIT (Nasdaq:CTRE) COO David Sedgwick has a new title: president.

The company recently promoted Sedgwick to the role, which was previously held by Greg Stapley, CareTrust’s chairman and CEO. Sedgwick is retaining his COO title with the move.

The company also announced it has hired James Callister as general counsel and secretary, and promoted Lauren Beale to senior vice president in addition to her current title of controller.

Kisco Hires National Director of Environmental Health and Safety

Kisco Senior Living has hired Mizuki Sato-Berkeland as its new national director of environmental health and safety.

In her new role, Sato-Berkeland will lead Kisco’s environmental safety efforts, and help design and implement new environmental health and safety processes, and lead disaster preparedness planning. She also will help lead health and safety issues, monitor data and science and incorporate that information into the company’s policies and procedures.

Sato-Berkeland previously worked in healthcare process and quality improvement at UCLA Health System.

Trustwell Living Hires Senior Vice President, Chief Marketing Officer

Trustwell Living has hired Gary Fernandez as senior vice president and chief marketing officer.

Fernandez has spent more than 23 years in the industry, and most recently worked as senior vice president and chief marketing officer with Trilogy Health Services. Fernandez also worked as vice president of national sales and marketing with Capital Senior Living (NYSE: CSU) from 2013 to 2017.

Trustwell is a new operating company from former Capital Senior CEO Larry Cohen. Other recent hires include Greg Boemer, who is working as the company’s senior vice president of operations, and Colleen Honnors, who is quality and clinical director.

Monarch Hires EVP of Sales

Monarch Communities has hired Mary Dewling executive vice president of sales.

In her new role, she is tasked with transforming the company’s sales operations and culture, and motivating workers in the process. She comes to the role with more than 20 years of professional management experience.

Juniper Adds New Regional Director Position

Juniper Communities has named Amy Purcell to the newly created role of regional director of sales and marketing for the Northeast.

As regional director of sales and marketing, Purcell will develop ways to attract new leads and build partnerships for Juniper communities in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She is also tasked with training and coaching employees, implementing a new CRM database management system and setting strategies for the company’s Covid-19 response.

She previously worked as a regional sales and marketing director for a mid-sized senior housing provider in the Mid-Atlantic.

White Oak Names Dopoulos Managing Partner

Jason Dopoulos is now a managing partner with White Oak Healthcare Partners.

He joined at the beginning of 2021 to help grow the firm’s senior housing platform. Dopoulos previously worked as senior managing director at Lancaster Pollard until last June.

Discovery Names VP of Operations

Discovery Senior Living has appointed Gottfried Ernst to the role of vice president of operations.

As vice president of operations, Ernst will help manage technology and systems integration, regulatory compliance, budgeting and forecasting and operating costs.

Ernst’s career spans about 20 years, and he has experience in areas including food and beverage, resident experience and wellness and facility maintenance. He previously worked as vice president of hospitality for True Connection Communities.

Cadence Hires Regional VPs of Operations, Marketing

Cadence Living has hired Deborah Osterhaudt as regional vice president of operations for the company’s Southeast region, and Robyn Childs as regional vice president of marketing for the company’s Mountain region.

As regional vice president of operations, Osterhaudt will oversee operations for Cadence’s portfolio of senior living communities in the U.S. Southeast. She previously worked in regional operations and marketing roles with other providers, including The Arbor Company, Principal Senior Living Group, Thrive Senior Living and Brickmont Assisted Living.

Childs, as regional vice president of marketing, is tasked with setting marketing strategy for Cadence’s portfolio of senior living communities in its Mountain region, six communities in Colorado, Utah and Idaho. She has more than 13 years of experience in marketing and operations, and has held corporate or regional marketing roles with The Wolff Company, Koelsch Communities, MBK Senior Living and Atria Senior Living.

Griffin Hires Director of Healthcare Operations

Griffin Living has hired Bebe Reed as its director of health care operations.

The hiring reflects a new emphasis on healthcare in senior living development and management. Overall, she has 25 years of management and operational experience in the senior living industry.

Arrow Senior Living Names Regional Wellness Director, Executive Directors

Arrow Senior Living has appointed two new executive directors, Katie Cook and Mary Jane Harris; and two new regional wellness directors, Crystal Parrish and Brooke Glenn.

Glenn has more than 20 years of experience in the hospital and health care industries, and previously worked as a post-surgical heart and lung nurse and executive director for a home health care provider. Parrish, meanwhile, has a decade of experience, and previously worked as a clinical nursing instructor and corporate director of clinical care.

As executive directors, Cook and Harris will oversee operations at Journey Senior Living of Ankeny in Ankeny, Iowa; and at The Boulevard at Wentzville in Wentzville, Missouri, respectively.

St. Ann’s Community Names Associate Nursing Director

Senior housing and care nonprofit St. Ann’s Community has promoted Shaneeya Cooper to the role of associate director of nursing.

In the new role, Cooper is responsible for planning, organizing, leading, and controlling community operations around the clock. Cooper previously worked as a nurse educator at St. Ann’s Home in Rochester, New York.

LeadingAge Illinois CEO to Retire

Karen Messer, president and CEO of LeadingAge Illinois, is retiring later this year.

Messer has held a variety of positions in her 32 years with the organization, including director of professional development, vice president of member services and executive vice president. She will remain in her role through mid-summer, when LeadingAge Illinois hopes to have found a replacement.

Singh Names Resident Care Manager at North Carolina Community

Singh Senior Living has named Christy Yost as the new resident care manager at Waltonwood Cotswold in Charlotte, North Carolina.

In her new role, Yost is responsible for meeting resident and associate needs; training CNAs and medical technicians; and coordinating residents’ travel to and from medical appointments. She will also support resident medication management and help maintain their diets.

Yost has 10 years of experience and previously worked in medical surgical and pediatrics nursing before moving to the senior living industry.

Ryan Companies Names Great Lakes Region President

Ryan Companies US has promoted Jim McDonald to president of the firm’s Great Lakes region. He most recently was the region’s senior vice president and market leader.

McDonald succeeds Tim Hennelly, who is rejoining the company’s development team. In his new role, McDonald will help set strategy and operational leadership for the region.

McDonald first joined Ryan Companies in 1999.

Livingston Expands Leadership Amid Active Adult Expansion

Private equity firm Livingston Street Capital has named Brian Krill as chief financial officer and Shawn Rose as managing director of asset management. The move comes as Livingston grows its focus on the 55-plus, active adult and independent living.

As CFO, Krill is responsible for overseeing the company’s accounting and financial management along with handling strategic initiatives at the firm, such as the creation of new investment offerings. He has 20 years of accounting and finance experience, and previously worked as a vice president of funds and property controller at KTR Capital Partners.

As managing director of asset management, Rose will help direct strategic operations for Livingston’s 55-plus, active adult and independent living assets. He has 20 years of experience in the senior living industry, and previously worked as vice president of operations at Guest Services Senior Living.

Retirement Unlimited Announces VP of Operations, Names Other Personnel

Retirement Unlimited has announced that Bryan Lamartin was promoted to vice president of operations. In that role, he is tasked with managing day-to- day operations of five communities in Virginia.

The company also made several announcements regarding personnel changes at two of its communities:

— Jamie Houston is returning to Retirement Unlimited as executive director for Heatherwood Community in Burke, Virginia.

— Matt Winningham was named executive director of Westmont at Short Pump, a community slated to open in March.

— Brigitta Lewis is now director of marketing and community relations for Westmont at Short Pump.

— Anna Fowler is working as move-in coordinator at Westmont at Short Pump, and is tasked with assisting Lewising with move-ins and deposits.

Buckner Community in Texas Names New Executive Director

Buckner Retirement Services has named Shane Gabis as the new executive director of Buckner Calder Woods, a life plan community in Beaumont, Texas. His appointment is effective Feb. 15.

Gabis previously worked for Life Care Services in a variety of roles over the past decade, including executive director, team leader and health care administrator.

Health Dimensions Group Names EVP of Finance

Health Dimensions Group has named Sarah Gustafson to the role of executive vice president of finance.

In her new role, Gustafson is responsible for implementing financial strategies, managing financial forecasting and budgeting, and overseeing financial reporting. As a member of the company’s executive leadership team, she also will have a hand in the development of quality and growth strategies.

Gustafson has more than 15 years of health care finance experience, and previously worked as vice president and system controller for an integrated health care system in the Midwest.
