Kauhale Health plans memory care redevelopment

Kauhale Health recently announced the acquisition and planned redevelopment of a senior living community in Bluffton, South Carolina, according to a news release.

The Pines at Bluffton will be redeveloped into Kauhale Bluffton with a $5 million plan to turn the community into a memory care property that can serve 50 residents.

The redevelopment includes capital improvements, relicensing and repositioning the former assisted living and memory care property that first opened in 2000. The renovation effort is expected to last the next 12 months.

The acquisition is Kauhale’s fifth new property in four years.

55+ community planned in New Jersey

A former country estate will be developed into a new 55+ community by Garden Communities, according to a news release.

Ballantine Greens is under construction and the future community will include 250 one- and two-bedroom apartments with amenities. Offerings include one-acre village green with a pergola, walking paths, seating areas, a fresh-water pond, a gazebo, open green space and EV charging stations.

New community hits pre-sales milestone in Virginia

A new senior living community in northern Virginia has reached 100% occupancy in pre-sales nearly four years prior to opening, according to a news release.

Goodwin House Seminary Road is under development by provider Goodwin Living, and the community is planned to open in 2029 and span 257 apartment homes in a two tower construction.

The community will “primarily serve older adults through a continuing care Life Plan community model” but the development is allocating space for local housing affordability with designated units.

CopperWood Senior LIving plans construction start

CopperWood Senior Living, a new community in Peapack, New Jersey, will break ground on the development next month, according to a news release.

The community is set on 4 acres of land and will add over 200 units of independent living, assisted living and memory care. In August, investment bank Ziegler reported closing on financing for the luxury senior living development.

Touchmark starts on Alaska community

Provider and developer Touchmark recently announced the start of construction on a new senior living development in the Anchorage, Alaska market, according to a news release.

Touchmark at Hillside will include 244 units and serve as Anchorage’s first full-service retirement community spanning independent living, assisted living and memory care. The 14-acre campus includes 120 condominium-style independent living homes, 34 villas, 58 assisted living apartments and 32 memory care homes in two secure neighborhoods.

“Alaskans shouldn’t have to choose between remaining connected to the place and lifestyle they love and having more choices for how they want to live in retirement,” said Marcus Breuer, CEO of Touchmark. “We see an opportunity in Anchorage to create something different: a community built first around living well and staying active, with the added confidence of knowing support is available if it is ever needed.”

Touchmark Development & Construction is leading the development and design of the community, working with a local team including Bettisworth North, Watterson Construction, DOWL, BBFM Engineers and T3 Alaska, with LRS Architects also providing architectural services.

Cedarhurst Senior Living finishes independent living expansion

Cedarhurst Senior Living recently announced the completion of 32 new independent living cottages at Cedarhurst of Frankfort in Frankfort, Illinois, according to a news release.

Construction on the cottages started in the spring of last year and all 32 cottages are now open, with move-ins underway. Cedarhurst of Frankfort also offers assisted living and memory care alongside its independent living component.

The cottages are designed for older adults that value privacy, independence and low maintenance living. Each cottage includes a two-bedroom floor plan with a zero-step entryway, walk-in closets, full-size kitchen appliances, laundry, private garage, a covered patio and a gas fireplace.

“Today’s older adults want choices that allow them to continue living life on their terms, and these cottages expand the living options we’re able to offer to meet those needs,” said Cedarhurst President Almir Sajtovic. “Our goal is to create an environment where residents can spend less time worrying about home maintenance and more time enjoying the people, experiences and opportunities that are meaningful to them.”

Residents also have access to a dedicated clubhouse that serves a weekly three-course menu and daily continental breakfast. Other amenities include a putting green, gym, athletic courts for bocce and shuffleboard.

Cedarhurst Senior Living announces Kansas community opening

Cedarhurst Senior Living also announced the opening of Cedarhurst of Shawnee, a new assisted living and memory care community in Shawnee, Kansas, according to a news release.

The two-story community spans 80,700 square feet on approximately 20 acres and includes 63 assisted living apartments and 26 memory care suites. The community is now accepting new residents.

Residents also have access to a movie theater, landscaped courtyards, housekeeping and laundry services, and wellness, social and recreational activities.

New affordable community opens in Florida

Riverbend Landings, a new affordable senior housing apartment community, recently opened and has reached 75% occupancy in Sanford, Florida, according to a news release.

The community includes indoor and outdoors spaces for resident recreation and wellness. On-site amenities include a waterside walking path, indoor and outdoor fitness facilities and a multi-purpose gathering space.
