Life Plan Community Planned in South Carolina
Big Rock Partners is developing a new life plan community on South Carolina’s Kiawah Island.
A newly formed nonprofit, Kiawah Life Plan Village, purchased a nine-acre site on which to build the community from luxury master planned community developer Kiawah Partners, which is a subsidiary of South Street Partners. The $180 million community, Seafields at Kiawah Island, is set to have 114 units and an in-house medical clinic operated by the Medical University of South Carolina.
Pre-leasing has started and is being facilitated through Kiawah Island Real Estate, which is managing sales and marketing for Seafields. If all goes according to plan, the project will break ground early fall 2021.
Planned $200M Mixed-Use Development to Include Senior Living
A planned $200 million mixed-use research park development in Huntsville, Alabama, is slated to include a senior living community.
The project, Upland Park, is planned to have multifamily housing in addition to Vitality at Upland Park, a 189-unit senior living community from Vitality Living.
Nicol Investment Company is the project’s developer. The long list of project partners includes ESA, which is the architect of Vitality at Upland Park; and DeAngelis Diamond, which is the senior living community’s general contractor. Other companies involved in the project are Centric Architecture, Doster Construction, Humphreys & Partners, TriBridge Residential, JHP, EMJ Construction, RAM Partners and Colliers.
The project is slated to include multiple phases, with completion scheduled for the fall of 2022.

Memory Care Center Coming Together in New York
ArchCare, the Archdiocese of New York’s healthcare system, is set to open a new memory care center at its ArchCare at Ferncliff nursing home and rehab facility in Rhinebeck, New York.
The Center for Advanced Memory Care at ArchCare at Ferncliff is set to have a home-like setting for residents. Each of the center’s rooms are planned to have a smart TV and senior-friendly video conferencing technology.
Dalpos Architects was the project’s architect. The project is still under construction, but residents are expected to start moving in later this year.
Affordable Senior Housing Underway in Las Vegas
Volunteers of America National Services announced the groundbreaking of the second phase of an affordable senior housing community in Las Vegas.
The second phase of the community, Desert Oasis, is set to add 43 new units to the property’s existing 75 units. The new building is set to include a clubhouse with a computer room, exercise room, laundry facilities and a community garden.
Construction is scheduled to wrap up in the fall of 2022.

South Carolina Community Finishes Largest Expansion to Date
Rolling Green Village, a community managed by Life Care Services in Greenville, South Carolina, on Aug. 26 hosted a ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the completion of the community’s largest addition in its 35-year history.
The expansion added 60 new apartment homes in addition to 23 single-family homes and duplexes. It also included a new commons building with multiple dining venues, game rooms, multipurpose rooms, an art studio, library and a salon.
LCS Development was the project’s developer, while Mavin Construction, Triangle Construction Company and Five Star Construction were the builders for the project.
CC Young Adds Inpatient Hospice Unit
Non-profit senior living community CC Young has expanded its hospice program with the addition of a 16-bed inpatient hospice unit slated to open in September.
The new hospice unit is located in the Dallas community’s skilled nursing and assisted living building, Vista, which opened in early 2020. The inpatient wing includes multiple family gathering areas, an area for small children, private conference rooms, outdoor garden and a second-floor meditation chapel.
