Hord Coplan Macht principal appointed to Maryland State Board of Architects

Hord Coplan Macht Principal Cynthia Shonaiya has made Maryland history by being appointed as the first Black Chair of the State Board of Architects by Governor Wes Moore.

According to a press release, the distinction is a celebration of Shonaiya’s 30 years of leadership and “dedication to advancing design across the state, and serving the best interests of all its citizens.”

Shonaiya joined Hord Coplan Macht in 2000, and since then has designed over 250 senior living projects.

Emerald Communities promotes CFO

Not-for-profit Emerald Communities announced the promotion of Denisa Feddersen from corporate controller to chief financial officer.

In her new role, Feddersen will be responsible for the “overall strategic and operational aspects of finance, accounting and IT,” according to a press release, and ensure Emerald Communities meets its financial and business goals.

Feddersen has more than two decades of experience in accounting and finance, and prior to joining Emerald Communities, she served as president of finance and corporate controller at a senior living community based in California.

Todd Ellingson named CFO at Health Dimensions Group

Health Dimensions Group has announced the appointment of Todd Ellingson as the company’s CFO on Feb. 20.

Ellingson brings more than 35 years of experience to the role who has a “distinguished record of success” in growing capital structures, according to a press release.

In his role, Ellingson will “identify opportunities that will drive the success” of the company’s financial growth and optimization.

Health Dimensions Group promotes SVP of consulting services

Health Dimensions Group announced it promoted Kathy Karr to senior vice president of consulting services on Feb. 13.

In her role, Karr will lead HDG’s turnaround services, operational assessments and due diligence activities.

Karr brings more than four decades of experience to the role, and has held various positions at HDG since 2012. According to a press release, she has led both senior living and health care clients in achieving their operational and financial goals “while improving quality outcomes” and boosting satisfaction rates among residents and patients.

National Church Residences hires two for leadership positions

National Church Residences announced it has hired two new staff members for leadership roles within the company.

Margaret Gibson has been hired to serve as vice president of marketing and sales, and started on Nov. 20, 2023. In her role, Gibson is responsible for overseeing management and growth of the organization’s social media channels and digital footprint. She comes from Synchrony Health Services, where she served as a sales leader.

Kelli Meyung has returned to National Church Residence as vice president of senior living operations. In the role, Meyung directs operations for three Ohio-based and two Florida-

based continuing care retirement communities, according to a press release. She has more than 30 years of experience in the industry, including her role as senior director of healthcare at “one of the nation’s largest senior communities.”

Clearwater Living expands director of resident engagement and wellbeing role

Clearwater Living announced Jill Zimmerman is taking on new responsibilities with an expanded role as director of resident engagement and wellbeing.

In the role, Zimmerman will cultivate the company’s Empowered Living program, as well as being responsible for the oversight and leadership of Clearwater’s Clearbrook Memory Support neighborhoods.

Zimmerman joined Clearwater Living in 2019 as lifestyle director for Clearwater at Sonoma Hills, and was promoted to director of Empowered Living in 2021.

Lenbrook promotes executive chef

Atlanta intown community Lenbrook has announced the promotion of Antonio Nazario to executive chef.

Nazario has been with Lenbrook since 2008, where he joined as a fine dining line cook. He has advanced through a variety of roles with the company, including sous chef, senior sous chef and executive sous chef.

According to a press release, Nazario has “played a pivotal role in defining Lenbrook’s culture by fostering a sense of unity within the heart of the house operations.”

Former LeadingAge executive joins Acts board of directors

Acts Retirement-Life Communities has announced the election of Kathryn Brod to its board of directors.

Brod brings over 30 years of experience in the senior living sector to the position, with her most recent role being president and CEO of LeadingAge Ohio.

She has also served as vice president of senior living strategic initiatives at Mather LifeWays and senior vice president, director of research at Ziegler.

Alder View Capital expands team with two additions

Alder View Capital has announced that it has expanded its team with Kevin Laidlaw as managing director and Cal Masterson as associate.

Laidlaw brings 17 years of experience in healthcare and senior living to the position. In his role, he will be “delivering a broad array of debt and structured products” to healthcare and senior living clients, according to a press release.

Masterson brings a “strong foundation” of senior living experience, with a focus on senior living mergers and GSE asset management. In his role, he will support business development and transaction execution.

Silver Birch Living Fort Wayne names executive director

Silver Birch Living has announced Amanda Harlow as the executive director at its Fort Wayne location.

In her role, Harlow will oversee the day-to-day operations of the community.

Harlow brings seven years of experience in senior living to the role, and has previously held a variety of roles.

Retirement Unlimited, Inc. adds VP of operations

Retirement Unlimited, Inc. has brought on new leadership by adding Amy Stephenson as its new vice president of operations for the Florida region.

In her new role, Stephenson will oversee operational processes and procedures for RUI’s 10 Florida communities.

Stephenson brings more than 30 years of experience to the role, with previous roles including regional director of operations, senior executive director, executive director, marketing director and social service director for other senior living companies.

Lenbrook promotes director of security

Lenbrook has announced the promotion of Kevin Harris to its director of security.

Harris’s new role will include ensuring the security of the Lenbrook campus and overseeing the security team’s daily operations, in addition to leading the concierge team, which includes valet and transportation.

Harris has been in the senior living industry for eight years, and joined Lenbrook in 2021 as a security manager.

Goodwin Living appoints managing director of real estates

Goodwin Living has announced the appointment of Andrew Cretal as managing director of real estate for the company.

In his role, Cretal will be responsible for “the oversight and implementation of strategic planning for the real estate assets of Goodwin Living,” according to a press release.

Cretal brings 24 years of experience to the position, with his most recent position being senior vice president for ZOM Living.

12 Oaks Senior Living adds learning and development director

12 Oaks Senior Living has announced the addition of Steve Nguyen as its learning and development director.

In his role, Nguyen will expand on the company’s learning and development capabilities to “enable individuals and teams to acquire knowledge and skills to empower them to perform and grow in their current or aspirational role,” according to a press release.

Nguyen comes to 12 Oaks from Lennox International, where he served as learning and development manager.

Senior services marketing agency Varsity names president

Varsity, a senior services marketing agency, has announced Derek Dunham as its president.

In his new role, Dunham will be responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the company.

Dunham brings more than 30 years of branding, marketing and communications experience to the position.
