The Weitz Company Welcomes New Business Development Director

The Weitz Company has appointed Andrew Fisher as the firm’s director of business development for senior living.

Fisher has worked in the senior living industry for more than 20 years, serving most recently as COO for a senior living company with operations in Nebraska and Iowa. In his new role, Fisher will be responsible for business development and reconstruction approaches, having provided strategic leadership while overseeing operations and quality benchmarks in the past.

The Weitz Company is a Nebraska general contractor that focuses on senior living, higher education, office and other construction projects.

Atlanta-Based Lenbrook Names New Director of Nursing

Lenbrook, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) located in Atlanta, Georgia, has appointed Patricia Nelson as its new director of nursing.

Before joining the staff at Lenbrook, Nelson worked as a clinical manager at the Atlanta Shepherd Center’s catastrophic care hospital for eight years and director of nursing for Golden Living Center, a long-term rehabilitation service facility. She also served as a registered staff nurse in DeKalb Medical Hospital’s long-term acute and special care unit.

As director of Nursing at Lenbrook, Nelson will be responsible for the provision of care and staff training at the facility’s full-service health center, walk-in clinic and personal care suites.

“Patricia brings strong nursing and business management skills to Lenbrook, along with a true passion for serving older adults,” said Chris Keysor, president and CEO of Lenbrook, in a prepared statement. “She shares our dedication to enriching the lives of our residents by enabling them to live independently as long as possible.”

studioSIX5 Appoints New Design Director

Austin, Texas-based senior living interior design firm studioSIX5 has promoted Karla Jackson to design director.

In her new role, Jackson will serve as ambassador for the company, developing new business, managing new project team assignments and promoting each new venture. Jackson has worked with the firm since 2005 as part of various design teams across the country.

Along with Jackson’s promotion comes the reorganization of studioSIX5, resulting in new titles for several current employees. As part of those changes, Jessica Murrell, Leslie McVey Hicks, Rayann Coffman, Kristin Taylor, Saskie Fazio McPhail, Stephanie Sharma and Claire Richards will now serve as project design managers. Meanwhile, Allison Coon, Emily Yaung, Jennifer Tart, Adrienne Perlman, Shauna Revo, Sarah Jenne and Betsy Valadez will act as design coordinators.

studioSIX5 has grown since it’s conception 12 years ago, adding a San Antonio location and expanding to more than 50 employees.

Carlton Senior Living in Northern California Names New President

Carlton Senior Living in Northern California has named David Coluzzi as president of the company, which is comprised of 11 independent and assisted living facilities as well as memory care communities.

Before joining Carlton Senior Living, Coluzzi served as CEO of the Esquire Group, a senior living and apartment company with 1,200 units on seven properties in New Jersey, where he led efforts to increase revenue through rebranding, program development and accountability matrix systems. He also worked as vice president of operations at Classic Residence by Hyatt, directing the management of a portfolio of 10 luxury CCRCs while leading the startup of two new communities and an extensive expansion.

In his new role, Coluzzi will be involved in plans to add to Carlton Senior Living’s 11-property portfolio.

Avanti Senior Living Welcomes Senior Executive Director, Community Relations Director at Newest Community

Avanti Senior Living has announced the hires of Angela Copeland as senior executive director and Jeanette McMackin as community relations director at Avanti Senior Living of Vision Park, the senior living development, operations and ownership company’s newest community in Spring, Texas.

Copeland joins the Avanti Senior Living team with more than 20 years of experience in health care services, 12 of which were spent specifically in senior living. She will be responsible for daily operations of Avanti Senior Living at Vision Park, overseeing resident care, maintaining health codes and regulations and providing leadership for fellow team members.

McMackin has more than 20 years of experience in health care and sales, serving in sales and marketing positions at other senior living communities and hospitals. She will be tasked with generating leads through marketing campaigns and help manage community outreach.

Avanti Senior Living at Vision Park is currently under construction and is slated to open in spring of 2016.

EPOCH of Chestnut Hill Names New Administrator

EPOCH Senior Living has named Amy Griffin as administrator of EPOCH Senior Healthcare of Chestnut Hill in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts.

Before taking on her new role, Griffin served as director of admissions since 2010. She also served as assistant administrator before receiving her nursing home administrator’s license in March 2014. She will now be responsible for managing all aspects of the community, including skilled nursing, rehabilitation and memory care.

EPOCH, founded in 1997, is a New England-based senior living and health care company.

Michigan’s Largest Nonprofit Senior Living Provider Names New CEO

Holland Home, Michigan’s largest nonprofit provider of senior services, has promoted Mina Breuker to CEO.

Prior to her appointment as CEO, Breuker held administrative roles at Holland Home since 1998, and previously worked in nursing and hospital administration at Holland Hospital from 1978 to 1998. Holland Home provides residential, skilled nursing, rehabilitation, hospice and community-based services to about 4,000 people daily in 13 counties in Western and Northern Michigan.

Breuker succeeds David Claus, who led the Grand Rapids, Michigan, organization since 1991. She will lead all divisions of Holland Home.

“It is a privilege and a pleasure to lead this organization,” Breuker said in a prepared statement. “We have an outstanding vision for the future and a mission that will guide us every step of the way.”

Northland Village Assisted Living Hires New Registered Nurse, Manager

Northland Village-McGregor’s Assisted Living Community, in conjunction with Northland Foundation, welcomes Rebeka Weikum as the McGregor, Minnesota, community’s new registered nurse/manager.

As RN/manager, Weikum is tasked with supervising the care attendants providing services for the older adult residents at the 20-suite community. She previously worked for two years at the Northland Village facility located in Hoyt Lakes, Minnesota.

“Beka has been an excellent team member at our Hoyt Lakes location, and we are happy she has accepted the RN/manager position in McGregor,” said Brad Sandnas, director of assisted living for the Northland Foundation, in a news release. “She already understands our person-centered model of care focused on each individual’s needs and preferences and our ‘yes you can’ philosophy of supporting residents to enjoy their independence.”

Northland Village is a community investment of the Northland Foundation, which aims to provide senior living options in small northeastern Minnesota communities. The foundation built and now operates three facilities.
