Parkinson Joins AHCA / NCAL To Become its New President and CEO

The nation’s largest long term care association, the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL), has announced that Kansas Governor Mark Parkinson has been selected as its next President and CEO. Governor Parkinson will begin his term with AHCA/NCAL in January following his term in office.

Parkinson has been an owner and operator of long term care facilities for over 15 years both as the Chief Executive Officer of Ad Astra Development, LLC, in Olathe, Kansas, and as Chairman of the Board, founder, and developer of Allen Park, Inc., Allen Park Two, Inc., and Allen Park Three, Inc. Under his leadership, he has helped develop ten separate facilities in Kansas and Missouri. His facilities include hundreds of rooms for skilled nursing, assisted living and dementia-related care, giving him a broad background in the continuum of care. Parkinson has a long history of public service to the state of Kansas. Serving as State Representative, State Senator, Lieutenant Governor and now as Governor, he provided leadership to reduce state spending by over $1.5 billion in two years to match reduced revenues caused by the recession and supplied the necessary support and guidance to accelerate statewide alternative energy initiatives as wind farm assets tripled in Kansas over 24 months.  Parkinson is a native Kansan who graduated summa cum laude from Wichita State University and first in his class from the University of Kansas School of Law.

Westminster Ingleside Retirement Communities Names President & CEO

The Board of Directors of the Westminster Ingleside Retirement Communities has named Lynn O’Connor as President and CEO. O’Connor will oversee the Westminster Ingleside Foundation, along with Ingleside at Rock Creek, Westminster at Lake Ridge and Ingleside at King Farm, three non-profit continuing care retirement communities with over 100-year tradition of service to seniors in the Washington, DC metropolitan area.  With 30 years of experience leading organizations that provide homes and services to seniors, O’Connor had been President and CEO of Frasier Meadows Retirement Community in Boulder, CO since 2005.  O’Connor previously served as President and CEO of The Washington Home and Community Hospices in Washington, DC, and Executive Director of Asbury Methodist Village in Gaithersburg, MD. She earned her Certification in Long Term Care Administration at the University of Maryland.

Watercrest at Bryan Names Kristen Lembcke Director of Marketing and Leasing

Watercrest at Bryan recently named Kristen Lembcke Director of Marketing and Leasing. The announcement was made by Rick Simmons, president and CEO, Integrated Real Estate Group, developer of Watercrest at Bryan.  Lembcke previously served as Director of Marketing and Sales at Country Crest Continuing Care Retirement Community in Oroville, CA. She received a bachelors degree from California State University in Chico, CA.

 

Christopher E. Herbert appointed Research Director of Joint Center for Housing Studies

Eric S. Belsky, Managing Director of the Harvard Joint Center for Housing Studies, has announced that Christopher E. Herbert has been appointed Research Director.  In making this announcement, Dr. Belsky noted that Herbert is a nationally recognized expert in the design, implementation, and management of research related to housing policy, housing markets, housing finance, and urban development and that he previously conducted research at the Joint Center during the course of his doctoral program at the Harvard Kennedy School.

Dr. Herbert returns to Harvard after 13 years as a senior associate at Abt Associates, where he directed numerous studies for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD). In recent years, Dr. Herbert’s work has focused on efforts to promote and maintain homeownership for low-income and minority families.  His work in this area has included evaluations of federal and state homeownership programs, detailed literature reviews, and analysis of disparities in mortgage lending and residential foreclosure by income and race/ethnicity.  Among his most recent research reports are Report to Congress on the Root Causes of the Foreclosure Crisis, The State of the Housing Counseling Industry and The Homeownership Experience of Low-Income and Minority Families: A Review and Synthesis of the Literature.  Dr. Herbert’s other clients have included the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia, AARP, the Michigan State Housing Development Authority, and NeighborWorks® America.  Before joining Abt Associates in 1997, Dr. Herbert was a senior research analyst at the Joint Center for Housing Studies of Harvard University. Dr. Herbert holds a Ph.D. and M.P.P. in Public Policy from Harvard University and a B.A. in History from Dartmouth College.

 

Edgemere Names Dr. Vaqar Dar New Medical Director

Edgemere senior living community has named Dr. Vaqar Dar as its new medical director.  Dr. Dar, a board certified internist, has been in practice for over 10 years serving the North Dallas community, including Presbyterian Hospital of Plano and other rehabilitation facilities in the area.  He specializes in personalized and custom tailored medical care as well as specialized treatment in long term care settings.  Dr. Dar trained in New York and currently resides in Plano.
