Assisted Living is a type of senior housing that provides housing and services that assist with residents with the activities of daily living (ADLs). ALF’s provide varying degrees of supportive services depending on the facility and its residents. Most assisted living facilities allow residents freedom to move in and out of the facility and provide some basic services besides housing such as laundry and meal services.
Assisted living facilites may resemble apartment complexes and provide small individual or shared rooms. Facilities can provide staff to assist residents in varying tasks and activities as part of the monthly fee for living in the residence.
Most assisted living facilities require private payment by the resident or the family and the options for use of Medicaid is limited and dependent upon the state where the facility is located.
