Jamisyn Becker, Marketing and Innovation Director at John Knox Village of Florida, has been named a 2023 Future Leader by Senior Housing News.
To become a Future Leader, an individual is nominated by their peers. The candidate must be a high-performing employee who is 40-years-old or younger, a passionate worker who knows how to put vision into action, and an advocate for seniors and the committed professionals who ensure their well-being.
Becker spoke with SHN about how she joined the industry by way of hospitality and how the digital marketing landscape is shaping up for 2024.
What drew you to this industry?
I began my career in the hospitality industry. Throughout my 10 years in that industry, I specialized in event planning and execution. My passion was providing unique and memorable experiences for my clients. My draw to this industry is having the opportunity to continue to create those types of experiences in a more meaningful way. In building lasting relationships with our residents, I get to see the positive impact being made on seniors lives daily through activities and engagement.
What’s your biggest lesson learned since starting to work in this industry?
You cannot make everyone happy all the time. What you can do is provide opportunities for all residents’ feedback and provide a variety of programs. Here at John Knox Village, we constantly encourage resident feedback through QR code surveys per event, quarterly resident roundtable meetings, and a committee of residents solely focused on our life enrichment offerings. From this feedback we offer a variety of programming ranging from lifelong learning lectures, arts and cultural events, multigenerational programs, wellness programming, and social events.
If you could change one thing with an eye toward the future of senior living, what would it be?
How people view senior living.
What do you foresee as being different about the senior living industry looking ahead to 2023?
One major shift we have made in 2023 and will continue forward is in our marketing efforts. We have increased our digital strategy and presence resulting in retaining more qualified leads and a significantly shorter sales cycle. We had a record August in sales as a result.
In a word, how would you describe the future of senior living?
