Jamie Barcomb, licensed practical nurse for Senior Lifestyle – The Sheridan at Cooper City, has been named a 2022 Frontline Honors honoree by Senior Housing News.
To become a Frontline Honoree, an individual is nominated by their peers. The candidate must be a dedicated, high-performing frontline worker who delivers exceptional experiences and outcomes; a passionate worker who knows how to put their vision into action for the good of seniors and aging industry professionals; and an advocate for seniors, their industry, and their peers.
Senior Housing News caught up with Barcomb to discuss their time in the Senior Housing industry.
SHN: What drew you to the Senior Housing industry?
Barcomb: I started working with the senior population when I was 14 years old, I have always been drawn to helping the elderly. It is my purpose to assist them in living their highest quality of life as long as possible.
What’s your biggest lesson learned since starting to work in the industry?
The biggest lesson you learn working in this industry is to NEVER stop learning. Ask the questions, find the information, keep the passion for your career alive. It is how we continue to offer the care that the resident/patients deserve.
What’s your favorite part about your job?
My favorite part of my job is the lasting connections you make with patients and their families. Being trusted to take care of someone and their loved one is a tremendous responsibility and privilege. We should treat each person and relationship with dignity and the respect. I approach each day taking care of the residents as if they were my grandparents or parents and treat them as I would hope that my family members were treated.
What do you want society (or the general public) to know about your job?
This is a hard job mentally, emotionally, and physically. It isn’t for the faint hearted. At the end of the day, if you are caring for the residents in the way they deserve, every second of this job is worth it. I have always enjoyed being a nurse.
