Lifespark gears up for national scale-up with ex-UnitedHealth exec on board

Minnesota-based Lifespark is gearing up for going national, with the company recently hiring Matt Nyquist as Chief Population Health Officer.

Prior to joining Lifespark, Nyquist was the Chief Product Officer/Chief Information Officer for the Center for Digital Health with UnitedHealth Group – Optum. He was also Optum’s Chief Information Officer.

To start, his focus will be on the process and structure around Lifespark’s scalable product, Lifespark COMPLETE.

Cypress Living promotes VP, Welcomes Resident Services Manager

Florida-based Cypress Living announced Jeff Dunkle as vice president of financial services for the company.

In his new role, Dunkle will have accountability and oversight for financial services of Lee Healthcare Resources and its subsidiaries. He started with the company in 2013 and previously served as chief financial officer for Wesley Enhanced Living in Pennsylvania.

The company also announced the hiring of Stephen Smutak as Resident Services Manager. He will be responsible for assisting independent living residents and their family members through the transition process to a healthcare setting and offer non-medical support.

He comes to Cypress Living most recently from Aristocrat Berea Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Berea, Ohio, where he served as Director of Social Services.

Nonprofit Emerald Communities adds VP

Redmond, Washington-based Emerald Communities, a nonprofit senior housing and parent company of Emerald Heights and Heron’s Key announced Alex Candalla as the new vice president of operations.

Candalla will be responsible for oversight of both the Emerald Heights and Heron’s Key communities. Prior to joining Emerald Communities, Candalla served as the executive director of two senior living properties in Des Moines and northern California

Fox Run promotes HR director

An Erickson Senior Living community in Novi, Michigan, Fox Run, has promoted Katy Yermak to director of Human Resources after nearly two decades with the company.

Yermak joined Fox run 19 years ago having helped the community open in 2003 as a Human Resources assistant. During her career, she has served as a coordinator, manager and senior manager within the Human Resources Department.

Yermak will be responsible for daily operations of the Human Resources Department with a focus on employee recruitment and engagement. The community has more than 700 full-and part-time employees.

Arbors Memory Care names new director

Sparks, Nevada-based Arbors Memory Care named Assaad Zeid as executive director of the community, with Zeid bringing over 17 years of experience in assisted living, independent living and memory care.

Arbors’ parent company, Radiant Senior Living operates 15 communities in six states.

WesleyLife Philanthropic Foundation leader named

Sophia S. Ahmad, a noted philanthropy executive leader and strategist, will joint WesleyLife next month as Vice President of Philanthropy, heading up the soon-to-be-launched WesleyLife Foundation.

Ahmad comes to WesleyLife from MercyOne Des Moines Foundation. Prior to her time with MercyOne, Ahmad held similar roles with the Greater Des Moines Partnership and the Des Moines Symphony & Academy.
