Front Porch Communities Looking for New CEO

Front Porch Communities and Services CEO John Woodward announced earlier this week he has asked the company’s board of directors to begin the recruitment and selection process for hiring a new CEO ahead of Woodward’s retirement. Woodward, who is retiring later this year, has served as CEO of Front Porch since May 2015.

The board will establish a search committee and the transition is expected to take place before the end of the year, a company news release said. Front Porch serves approximately 7,500 residents in 19 senior living and 32 affordable housing communities.

Sonida Appoints New CFO

Sonida Senior Living (NYSE: SNDA) tapped Kevin Detz as chief financial officer effective May 1.

He previously served as executive vice president and operational CFO at Aimbridge Hospitality over an eight year career. Other roles at Aimbridge included senior vice president and chief accounting officer.

President and CEO Kimberly Lody called Detz a “transformational leader” who will bring “an ideal combination of leadership experience, financial expertise and accounting knowledge to Sonida.”

Anthology Senior Living Sees New Leadership

Michael Berman was appointed president of the company in December of 2021. 

In his role, Berman oversees investments, development, asset management and operations for more than 40 communities encompassing over 2,000 residents and 1,900 employees.

Berman previously served as the chief financial officer for Anthology, leading all capital markets, finance and accounting functions, and has over 35 years of real estate industry experience.

Anthology’s portfolio includes both Anthology-owned and operated senior living communities, as well as third-party operated communities including independent living, assisted living, and memory care nationwide.

Asbury adds new HR Lead

Asbury Communities welcomed Michael J. Bartoszek as chief human resources officer earlier this month.

Bartoszek brings more than 30 years of HR experience, including 20 years at Sodexo. He will be tasked with building progressive workforce strategies, promoting culture and launching a talent management tool.

Since 2002, he held various roles with Sodexo as an HR leader with expertise in talent management with strong understanding of diversity equity and inclusion strategy.

Morning Pointe Senior Living Appoints Senior VP

The Chattanooga, Tennessee-based Morning Pointe Senior Living announced longtime associate Lauren Lee was promoted to senior vice president of accounting and analytics. She will be responsible for data analysis and interpretation while maximizing return on financial assets.

Morning Pointe owns and manages 36 assisted living, personal care and memory care properties across five southeastern states.

The promotion of Lee comes after she served 12 years with the company, starting as an intern for co-founder and CEO Franklin Farrow performing trend analysis work in purchasing. Lee most recently held the title of vice president of culture and talent.

National Church Residences Hires Regional Director

The National Church Residences Atlanta office announced Beverly Burks as the new regional director of philanthropy and public relations. In this position, Burks will oversee growth in the Atlanta region and provide leadership to the organization’s philanthropy, communication and community engagement.

Burks comes to the organization with more than two decades of experience spanning community outreach and engagement; public affairs and media relations; non-profit organization management; budget, grant, volunteer and crisis management; and event planning and organization. National Church Residences serves more than 42,000 seniors through its array of housing and health care services.

Kendal Affiliate in Massachusetts Adds New CEO

Lathrop Community, a Kendal Corp. affiliate with campuses in Northampton and Easthampton, Massachusetts, recently welcomed new CEO Cindy Jerome. She is a seasoned executive leader with over two decades of leadership experience in the field of senior living in New England.

Jerome will lead the daul campus community’s initiatives including facilities stewardship, strategic planning and program development.

She previously served as the senior leader of Alice Peck Day Lifecare and, prior to that, of Garden Path Elder Living. She has a masters degree in counseling psychology from Antioch University New England Graduate School.

Lathrop is a Kendal office affiliate serving older adults.

Solvere Living Names New GM

Kim Horn has been named senior general manager at The Monarch at Richardson for Florida-based Solvere Living, a senior living and active adult management company. Horn will be responsible for supporting new general managers in the company during their first 90 days by providing training, orientation and sharing best practices.

Horn originally joined the community in 2018 as general manager with 15 years of strategic leadership experience in education and IT. Under her leadership, The Monarch achieved a 95% occupancy rate in February 2022.

Solvere Living is part of a company group that makes up Solutions Advisors Group.

Minnesota Life Plan Community Hires Food and Bev Director, Health Admin

Trillium Woods, a Plymouth, Minnesota life plan community, announced that culinary expert Andrew Hall has been hired as director of food and beverage services. In this role, Hall brings diverse menus and fine dining to the community.

Prior to his employment at Trillium Woods, Hall worked as Executive Chef of Cocina Del Barrio (Edina, Minnesota) and as Culinary Director of Chandler Place Senior Living (St Anthony, Minnesota).

Samantha Paider was named as the administrator for The Birches Health Center. In this role, Paider is primarily responsible for the Health Center’s day-to-day operations, fiscal oversight, resident satisfaction, and regulatory compliance. The Birches offers memory care, skilled nursing, short-term care, and rehabilitation services.

Connecticut Community Welcomes New Director

Avon-Connecticut-based River Ridge at Avon Assisted Living announced that Michael Kolesar has been named community relations director focused on supporting Avon families and strengthening community partnerships.

Before working in senior care, the Avon native spent 15 years in the hospitality industry, managing the likes of Hotel Northampton in Northampton, Massachusetts and the Water’s Edge Resort and Country Club in Westbrook, Connecticut.

Benchmark is New England’s largest senior living provider with 63 independent living, assisted living, memory care and continuing care communities and over 5,000 associates.

HKS Makes Promotions to Expand Senior Living Reach

Siobhan Farvardin was promoted as co-leader of HKS’ senior living practice and Hector Covo was named as senior housing practice leader in Houston, Texas.

The addition will grow the company’s talent within the senior living market and continue to design leading communities.

Washington Life Plan Community Welcomes New Staff

Emerald Communities announced two new additions of staff to the company’s Redmond, Washington-based Emerald Heights life plan community. Tony Payton will serve as the new director of facilities having previously worked as chief engineer at the Bellevue Towers in Bellevue, Washington.

Other positions have included chief engineer and facilities supervisor at Polyclinic Seattle where he managed a team of seven engineers including vendors and contractors. He also worked as the facilities manager at The Redstone Group.

The company also named Nicole McCarthy as director of resident services at Emerald Heights to lead the community’s wellness teams and oversee resident service programs.

McCarthy joins Emerald Heights from her previous position as Director at SAILS, where she is responsible for the fiscal and personnel activities of the community’s Home Care Services program.
