St. Joe, Watermark Plan Florida Community
The St. Joe Company (NYSE: JOE), Watermark Retirement Communities and BRW Origins are collaborating on a senior living community slated to open in South Walton, Florida.
The community, Watersound Fountains, is planned to have 148 independent living apartments and amenities that include a spa, wellness center, pool and multiple dining venues. The project is under development near Watersound Origins, a master-planned community in St. Joe’s 1,400-acre WaterSound property.
Site development for Watersound Fountains is currently underway, and if all goes according to plan the community will welcome its first residents in 2023.
Ohio Senior Living Provider Plans New Rental Project
Friendship Village of Dublin and developer Crawford Hoying have announced plans to open a senior housing rental community concept at Bridge Park, a development in downtown Dublin, Ohio.
The community, The Bailey at Bridge Park, is slated to have 88 apartment units and access to the services and support of Friendship Village of Dublin’s main campus, which is close by.
The community will also employ an onsite resident services coordinator to assist residents with social activities, fitness and wellness.
If all goes according to plan, the roughly $40 million community will open in fall, 2023.
Cantina Secures Site for Flagship Project in Texas
Cantina Communities, a startup focused on pocket neighborhood active adult communities, has landed on a site for its “flagship campus” in Buda, Texas.
Cantina is currently finalizing the design of the community’s central gathering area as well as the individual homes. Construction could begin later this year, with the community’s founding members expected to arrive on campus by fall of 2022.

Marquis Teams Up With 5 Owners of Timber Company on Planned Project in Oregon
Marquis Companies is working with five of the owners of Giustina Land & Timber on a new senior living project in Eugene, Oregon.
The project, Marquis Eugene, calls for 196 units of independent living, assisted living and memory care with amenities that include a community center with a restaurant, coffee shop, theater, and auditorium; a saltwater pool; fitness center; and a “hotel lobby-like” gathering area with a double-sided fireplace. Residents can also get transportation to Marquis’ post-acute care facility in Springfield, Oregon, should they need those services.
The project represents Giustina Land & Timber’s entry into the senior living business.
Confluent, HRA Break Ground on Ohio Community
Developer Confluent Senior Living and project partner, Harbor Retirement Associates (HRA) have broken ground on a new community in Shaker Heights, Ohio.
The three-story community, HarborChase of Shaker Heights, is planned to have 108 assisted living and memory care units with multiple restaurants, outdoor fire pits and dining, a bar/lounge with sunroom, club room, classrooms and activity rooms, a fitness and wellness center, a barber and beauty salon.
Project partners include RDL Architects, which is the project’s architect; The Douglas Company as general contractor; and Mannik Smith Group as the project’s civil engineer.
Confluent and HRA expect to open the community in late 2022.

Senior Living Community Opens in Colorado
WellAge is managing a new senior living community: Sopris Lodge at Carbondale in Carbondale, Colorado.
The community has 74 independent living, assisted living and memory care apartments, with amenities that include a salon, concierge, chauffeured transportation, covered parking, storage lockers, a library, fitness center, outdoor hot tub and a putting green.
Z-Group Architects worked as the project’s architect, while Rocky Mountain Senior Housing handled development and construction. Interior design services came from Storm Designs.
Affordable Senior Housing Community in Chicago Welcomes First Residents
Evergreen Real Estate Group, Synergy Construction Group and the Chicago Housing Authority have announced the beginning of move-ins at Ravenswood Senior Living, a 193-unit affordable rental community in Chicago’s Ravenswood neighborhood.
Workers converted the former Ravenswood Hospital into a senior living community with 74 one-bedroom independent living apartments on the top six floors for Chicago Housing Authority (CHA) residents, and 119 units set aside for participants in the Illinois Supportive Living Program on the first four floors.
Residents have access to amenities such as a roof deck, community room, fitness room, library and computer room, lounges and laundry rooms. Other amenities are located at a supportive living community adjacent to Ravenswood Senior Living.
Ravenswood Senior Living is owned by Evergreen Real Estate Group in partnership with Synergy Construction Group and the CHA. Financial partners for the independent living community include the CHA, IHDA, National Development Corporation and IFF. Financial partners for the supportive living community include IHDA, NDC, Key Bank, Ravenswood Community Council, IFF and ComEd.
Leopardo Companies was the project’s general contractor for the project and Evergreen Construction Company, a division of Evergreen Real Estate Group, was subcontractor.
