Healthpeak Hires Senior VP of Risk Management

Healthpeak Properties (NYSE: PEAK) has named Frank Russo as its new senior vice president of risk management.

In his new role, Russo will oversee all global risk management responsibilities for Healthpeak, including all insurance matters related to the company’s multi-billion dollar real estate portfolio.

Russo worked with Silverado for nearly 15 years, and was a member of its executive team when he left the company.

“I fully expected to end my career there,” Russo told SHN, referring to Silverado. “With that being said, the opportunity at Healthpeak came my way and it turned out to be the perfect situation for me … they have a strong commitment to the entire senior housing industry and the impact I expect to have here could affect many more senior housing operators, as well as residents, than I was previously able to.”

Buckner Names Director of Hospitality

Buckner Retirement Services hired Phil Elmore to work as its director of hospitality. His hiring is effective Jan. 20.

In his new role, Elmore will oversee facilitation, coaching and curriculum development of resident experience training for workers at all six of Buckner’s communities in Texas.

Elmore is a 23-year senior living veteran. He most recently was president and CEO of Christian Care Centers, a role he had between 2004 and 2018.

HumanGood Welcomes Executive Director of Special Projects

Andrew Smith is HumanGood’s new executive director of special projects.

In his new role, Smith will help boost the efficiency and effectiveness of the organization’s core operations. He’ll initially focus on staffing and labor management programs, helping HumanGood’s life plan communities better address the increasing costs of labor and the competitive workforce environment.

Smith was most recently a senior director of sales operations at Brookdale Senior Living.

Ryan Cos. Appoints Senior Vice President of Senior Living

Ryan Companies has named Julie Ferguson as its new senior vice president of senior living.

Ferguson is now tasked with working with national and regional development, architecture, construction, asset management and capital market teams to lead, plan and execute the strategic vision for the senior living sector.

Ferguson has more than 20 years of experience in real estate development, acquisitions and brokerage in senior housing. She most recently worked as a director at Titan Development, where she helped form and launch the Titan Development Real Estate Fund.

Vincentian Announces New CFO

Vincentian Collaborative System has appointed Dean Owrey to the role of CFO.

Owrey has more than 30 years of experience in financial leadership centered in Western Pennsylvania. He most recently held the title of vice president and CFO for UPMC Enterprises and UPMC Corporate Services.

Health Dimensions Group Hires Senior Vice President of Operations

Senior living consulting and management firm Health Dimensions Group has hired Sharon Thole as its new senior vice president of operations.

Thole will lead the firm’s operations leadership team, a role that will task her with overseeing 38 managed senior care communities in seven states. She also will aid regional directors and site leaders as well as advise care community boards of directors and owners, among other duties.

Thole previously was the director of originations for financing of health care facilities and senior housing at Love Funding.

Acts Names New President, CFO

Acts Retirement-Life has appointed Karen Christiansen president and Richard Winter as CFO.

Ventas Appoints General Counsel

Ventas (NYSE: VTR) named Carey Shea Roberts executive vice president, general counsel and ethics and compliance officer.

In this role, Roberts will lead the real estate investment trust’s legal, compliance and enterprise risk management. Roberts succeeds T. Richard Riney, who recently retired.

Roberts joins Ventas from Assurant, where she worked as executive vice president, chief legal officer and corporate secretary.

Westmont Living Names VP of HR, Other Leaders

Westmont Living is gearing up for a year of growth by bolstering its leadership team.

The senior living provider made several personnel announcements, including naming Leigh Limpic as its vice president of human resources. Limpic has previously worked as vice president of human resources at Clearwater Living, and as vice president of human resources at Kisco Senior Living. She has also spent time at the Walt Disney Company and Sheraton Hotels.

Westmont also made the following personnel announcements to take effect throughout this year:

  • Patrick Frazier, executive director of Westmont Town Court in San Diego, was named operations specialist. In his new role, he’ll help look after Westmont’s Californian communities.
  • Lydia Hertzler, executive director of Westmont of Brentwood in Brentwood, California, was named regional director of operations.
  • Sheryl Bravo, executive director of Westmont of Pinole in Pinole, California, will in June take over as executive director of Westmont of Milpitas in Milpitas, California
  • Gabriella Etheridge has joined the organization as digital marketing manager.

Spate of Hirings for Senior Lifestyle

Senior Lifestyle has some new employees, including two new regional director of operations.

The senior living provider announced the following personnel moves on LinkedIn:

  • Kimberly Mahon is the company’s new regional director of operations.
  • William Allyn is also a new regional director of operations.
  • Senior Lifestyle added Nicole West as its new accounts payable coordinator.
  • Ana Cajamarca has joined the company as an accounting intern.

Compass Senior Living Welcomes New HR Director

Compass Senior Living named Tara Bailey as its human resources director.

She comes to Compass with over 27 years of HR experience in healthcare and manufacturing. She previously was a regional HR director overseeing human resources for more than 1,000 people in eight states.

MidCap Promotes Brin to New Head of Healthcare Real Estate Role

MidCap Financial recently promoted Lawrence Brin to the newly created position of head of healthcare real estate.

Brin, who has worked with MidCap since its 2008 founding, most recently held the role of managing director. In his new role, Brin will manage of the firm’s healthcare real estate business.

Cadence Promotes Thiel to Regional Director of Operations

Cadence Living has promoted Rhonda Thiel to the role of regional director of operations for its Mountain Region.

Thiel previously worked as executive director of Inspira Arrowhead, a community in Glendale, Arizona. Anna Sarres will fill Thiel’s vanacy in that role.

Spectrum Adds Medical Advisor

Spectrum Retirement Communities has hired Dr. John Bradley Holcomb to work as a new medical advisor.

In his new role, Holcomb will review and provide recommendations for resident care policies and procedures. He also will lend insight and expertise on resident care, safety, injury prevention and emergency preparedness.

Oakmont Names Executive Director in California

Oakmont Senior Living has named Melon Rivera as executive director of Oakmont of Novato, a senior living community due to open this spring in Novato, California.

Before joining Oakmont, Rivera worked as executive director at Atria Tamalpais Creek in Novato. He also worked with Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE: BKD) for about five years.

D.C.-Area Life Plan Community Gets New COO

Megan Barbour is now the COO of Collington, a not-for-profit life plan community and Kendal affiliate near Washington, D.C., in Mitchellville, Maryland.

Barbour has worked as administrator and director of operations at Collington since 2018.

Health Dimensions Group Names Executive Director in Iowa

Health Dimensions Group recently named Randi Roggentien executive director of Lutheran Living, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Muscatine, Iowa.

Roggentien is now tasked with helping to lead the CCRC’s operations. She has more than 10 years of health care industry experience, and previously worked as assistant executive director of Lutheran Living.

Watermark Community Gets New Life Director

Karen Donnelly is now a community life director at The Watermark at Vistawilla, a Watermark Retirement Services assisted living and memory care community in Winter Springs, Florida.

In her new role, Donnelly will plan and execute programs and events for residents. Donnelly has more than 10 years of experience in senior living.

Arizona Community Names Assisted Living, Memory Care Director

Sagewood, a Life Care Services-managed life plan community in Phoenix, Arizona, has named Gina Razdan as the director of assisted living and memory care at the community’s Acacia Health Center.

Razdan has more than 25 years of experience in health care settings.

Erickson Community Appoints Dining Services Director

Highland Springs, an Erickson Living community in Dallas, has named Varun Kakar as director of dining services.

Kakar has 10 years of experience with Erickson Living. He most recently worked as a traveling general manager for the Erickson Living’s dining department.

Taylor Design Expands Los Angeles Office

Architecture firm Taylor Design has has hired Daniel Ortega to head its new office in downtown Los Angeles.

Ortega’s career includes three decades working with the California Office of Statewide Healthcare Planning and Development.

Remedi Hires GM for New Pharmacy

Michael Hovis has joined Remedi SeniorCare as a general manager to lead the company’s thirteenth location, which is slated to open in Huntsville, Alabama, in the first quarter of 2020.

As general manager, Hovis will oversee pharmacy operations. He has more than a decade of pharmacy experience.
