Aegis Plans ‘World’s Greenest’ Community in Seattle

Workers have broken ground on Aegis Living Lake Union, an Aegis Living community in the Eastlake neighborhood of Seattle.

The 79-unit community will come with a slate of environmentally friendly design features that Aegis Living says will make it the “world’s greenest senior living community.” Among them are improved thermal insulation, an onsite solar array and offsite energy farm, a greywater plumbing system with rainwater capturing abilities, specialized pumps and forced air ventilation to recirculate and recover heat, LED lighting and emission-free appliances. As planned, the community will save about 320,000 kilowatt hours annually, with another 1.7 million kilowatt hours generated by the solar array and offsite energy farm.

The community’s design will resemble a modern shellhouse, with features that pay tribute to the University of Washington men’s rowing team that took gold at the 1936 Berlin Olympics.

The community is pursuing a Living Building Challenge certification, and is participating in the City of Seattle’s Living Building Pilot Program. Project partners include contractor Absher Construction, architect Ankrom Moisan and energy modeler Pacific Architects and Engineers.

Watercrest, St. Joe Break Ground on Florida Project

The Watercrest Senior Living Group and the St. Joe Company (NYSE: JOE) recently celebrated the start of construction for a new senior living community in Santa Rosa Beach, Florida.

The community, Watercrest Santa Rosa Beach Assisted Living and Memory Care, is planned to have 107 units and amenities such as a promenade, fireplace, water wall, multiple dining options, pool, salon and spa, grand balconies and Florida-style outdoor living spaces. The community will also come with a faux-outdoor streetscape as part of Watercrest’s memory care programming.

EMJ Corporation is building the community, which is scheduled to welcome residents in the later part of next year.

Erickson Community Starts Construction for New Neighborhood

Windsor Run, an Erickson Living continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Matthews, North Carolina, is building a new neighborhood for assisted living, memory care and long-term care.

The neighborhood, Piedmont Overlook, is planned to include living spaces, a restaurant, family kitchen, salon, living rooms and an enclosed courtyard.

If all goes according to plan, the neighborhood will welcome residents in the first half of 2021.

Senior Housing Management Adding Memory Care to Iowa Community

Senior Housing Management has started construction on a new memory care addition and renovation at Garden View Place Assisted Living and Memory Care, a community it purchased this year in Monona, Iowa.

The new addition will grow the total number of memory care apartments in the community to 10. The $1.4 million project will also add a new sunroom and include renovations to the main community kitchen and dining room.

Senior Housing Consultants is managing the construction project, while Solum Lang Architects designed it.

Holbrook Community Welcomes Residents in Georgia

Holbrook recently opened the doors at Holbrook Decatur, a new $74 million active adult community in Decatur, Georgia.

The five-story has 200 residences, which come in more than 18 floor plans with custom closets, fireplaces and a wine chiller.

Services for residents include air-ionization and UV water purification along with access to a Holbrook app for 24/7 updates.

Trilogy Health Services Opens Indiana Property

Trilogy Health Services has opened a new senior living community called Scenic Hills at The Monastery in Ferdinand, Indiana.

The community, which is on property leased directly from the Sisters of St. Benedict, has public and private dining rooms, a landscaped courtyard, an ice cream parlor, a salon and views of nearby hills.

Scenic Hills offers assisted living, memory care, skilled nursing, rehabilitation and respite care. An open house is scheduled for Nov. 10.

Vestcor Opens Community in Florida

Vestcor Senior Living’s The Grove at Canopy community in Tallahassee, Florida, is now open.

Roger B. Kennedy Construction recently completed the $20 million project. The community has 118 units for independent living, assisted living and memory care residents.

Group 4 Design designed the property.

Affordable Senior Housing Community Opens in Los Angeles

A new 70-unit, 80,000-square-foot affordable community for residents age 62 or older has opened in the Park Mesa Heights neighborhood of Los Angeles.

The community, called The Curve at West Angeles, has amenities including a community room and kitchen, laundry facility, gated parking, bike storage and a fourth-floor skydeck.

R.D. Olson Construction completed the project.
