Legend Senior Living CEO Elected Argentum’s Chairman of the Board
Tim Buchanan, president and CEO at Legend Senior Living, has been chosen to serve as the new chairman of industry association Argentum’s board of directors. He officially assumed the chairman role at the 2018 Argentum Senior Living Executive Conference in San Diego, California.
Buchanan, who in the past served as vice chairman of the Argentum board, also previously served as the first chairman of the Senior Living Certification Commission, a nonprofit committed to creating credentialing programs for senior living professionals. With Buchanan’s election, Loren Shook, Silverado president, CEO, and chairman, is now the past board chairman.
Many others also took on new responsibilities during this year’s Argentum conference. Among them were Randy Richardson, president of Vi Living, who was elected to fill the vice chairman’s role formerly held by Buchanan; and John Moore, Atria Senior Living chairman and CEO, who was elected to serve as secretary.
Additionally, other officers were re-elected to serve another term in their current roles: Ed Kenny, LCS chairman, as public policy committee chairman; Bruce Mackey, Five Star Senior Living president and CEO, as treasurer; and Pat Mulloy, as vice chairman.
Presbyterian Senior Living Appoints New COO, Executive Vice President
Presbyterian Senior Living has announced the promotion of Dan L. Davis Jr. to senior vice president and COO, and Jim Bernardo to the role of executive vice president.
In his new role, Davis will be responsible for the supervision of the organization’s continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) in Pennsylvania, Maryland and Delaware. Before taking the COO seat, Davis worked as an executive director, health care administrator, and most recently, vice president of continuing care operations.
Bernardo, who most recently served as the organization’s COO, is now responsible for the development of affiliations and partnerships, new business development, communications, strategic planning and resource development.
HumanGood Hires Vice President of Innovation and Experience Design
HumanGood has hired Mary Miller as its vice president of innovation and experience design.
Under the newly created title, Miller will aid the nonprofit senior living provider in incorporating innovation and human-centered thinking as it redesigns and grows its community living experiences. Miller will also help HumanGood develop middle-market senior living solutions for older adults.
HumanGood serves nearly 10,000 residents in 84 communities across California, Arizona, Nevada, Washington and Idaho.
Discovery Senior Living Picks Senior Vice President of Human Resources
Discovery Senior Living has announced that Lisa Welshhons is joining the company later this summer as its new senior vice president of human resources.
Starting July 1, Welshhons will work with Discovery’s executive leaders in maximizing their employees’ experiences while increasing team member engagement and longevity. She worked with Aureon HR since 2000, and led that company’s senior housing division for the past 15 years.
Welshhons also previously aided Discovery Senior Living as the company’s official HR services provider and partner.
Cushman & Wakefield Promotes Rick Swartz to Vice Chair
Real estate services firm Cushman & Wakefield has promoted Rick Swartz to vice chair of its senior housing capital markets group.
Swartz joined Cushman & Wakefield in 2003 as a managing director and principal responsible for originating, structuring and placing national debt and equity investments. In 2007 he opened the firm’s Boston office, and in 2011 Swartz initiated the firm’s senior housing capital markets group.
Additionally, the firm also added Dan Baker to its senior housing capital markets group. Baker will serve as a director, and will work out of the firm’s LaJolla, California, office.
Baker brings to the role more than 10 years of experience in investment sales, operations and construction management. Previously, he spent time at Avison Young and CBRE, both of which are focused on the senior housing space.
Eldermark Software Adds Senior Vice President of Market Development
Eldermark Software, an operational technology solutions provider for the senior care industry, recently added Brad Fuqua to its executive team as senior vice president of market development.
Fuqua’s focus moving forward will be business development within Eldermark’s marketing division, which includes the company’s Market Minder CRM, integrated marketing automation platform and lead generation products.
Fuqua was previously the vice president of SeniorHousingNet, where he was responsible for the account acquisition and support for senior living providers such as Brookdale Senior Living, Holiday Retirement and Capital Senior Living.
Oregon Community Names Director of Operations
Baycrest Village, a Radiant Senior Living property in North Bend, Oregon, has named a 30-year veteran of the community as its newest leader.
Newly appointed director of operations Terri Stamsos began working for Baycrest Village in 1986, during her junior year of high school. In appreciation for her 30 years of work, Radiant is awarding her a trip to Nuevo Vallarta, Mexico.
Wingate Appoints Administrator, Culinary Director for Massachusetts Communities
Wingate Healthcare named Darly Joseph to the rule of administrator of Senior Living Campus at Weston, a continuum-of-care community in Weston, Massachusetts.
Joseph has held administrator and executive director roles at senior living communities throughout the state of Texas. Most recently, he served as a long-term care administrator for Childress Healthcare Center in Childress, Texas.
Wingate Healthcare also recently appointed Theresa Cinq-Mars to the role of culinary director at One Wingate Way, a community in Needham, Massachusetts.
Cinq-Mars will oversee the dining department at One Wingate Way and Wingate Residences at Needham, an assisted living community located on the same campus.
Bay Area Community Adds Culinary Services, Vibrant Life Directors
Sagebrook Senior Living at San Francisco has named Steven Catindig as its culinary services director and Amelia Elgin as its Vibrant Life director.
In the new role, Catindig will be responsible for staffing and training chefs for Sagebrook Senior Living in addition to creating menus. Previously, Catindig was the dining room manager for Redwoods Retirement Community and the executive chef for Rockville Terrance Senior Living.
As a Vibrant Life director, Elgin will oversee designing activities for residents to engage in well-rounded and meaningful experiences.
Maryland Life Plan Community Hires Executive Director
Integrace Fairhaven, a life plan community in Sykesville, Maryland, has hired Philip Burkholder as executive director.
In his new role, Burkholder will oversee the day-to-day operations at Fairhaven, while also designing and implementing strategic plans.
Burkholder, who has more than 10 years of executive leadership experience in the senior housing industry, previously worked as CEO of the United Zion Retirement Community in Lititz, Pennsylvania.
Community in South Carolina Bolsters Leadership Team
Kaley Patterson, executive director of Amara Place in Columbia, South Carolina, recently named four additional members of her leadership team.
The leadership team is tasked with making sure each facet of the community contributes to the overall well-being of residents. The new additions are Candy Kennedy as executive chef; Ashleigh Brown as Vibrant Life director; Robbie Sanborn as resident care director; and Sanford Rivers as maintenance director.
