Kisco, Welltower CCRC in North Carolina to Build Senior Living High-Rise

The Cardinal at North Hills, a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) operated by Kisco Senior Living in Raleigh, North Carolina, has announced an expansion project to add a 15-story high-rise. The entire campus is a joint venture with Welltower (NYSE: WELL).

The expansion will add about 160 new residences, many with more than 2,000 square feet of living space. Planned amenities include outdoor entertainment areas and additional dining venues. The high-rise will also have penthouse apartments that range from 2,200 to 3,100 square feet and cater to older adults who desire more spacious accommodations.

The Cardinal is working with THW Design, an Atlanta-based architectural firm, to design the expansion. Construction is expected to begin in 2019 after the community completes its ongoing approval process with state and local agencies and finalizes its design.

Spring Hills Opening Memory Care Communities in Nevada, Virginia

Spring Hills Senior Communities are in the works for Summerlin, Nevada and Lansdowne, Virginia.

The communities—Poet’s Walk Summerlin and Poet’s Walk Lansdowne—will accommodate up to 72 residents and are designed with safety and comfort in mind. The communities will provide structured care programs that aim to combine the stability of a routine with independence and autonomy.

Poet’s Walk Summerlin is in the permitting stage, while the other community, Poet’s Walk Lansdowne, has started site work.

Integral to Manage Planned Community Near Houston

The National Realty Group (TNRG) and MedCore Partners recently announced the purchase of seven acres of land in Atascocita, Texas, for the development of a new senior living community.

The 186-unit independent living, assisted living and memory care community will be managed by Integral Senior Living and include amenities such as a fitness and wellness center, bistro, courtyard, activity room with theater and beauty shop. Integral currently manages 56 senior communities in Texas and 17 other states.

Design for the project should wrap up later this year in November, and construction is expected to begin shortly thereafter. The senior community is scheduled to open in March 2020.

The project is the second Houston-area senior living development for TNRG and MedCore. They are currently building Spring Cypress Assisted Living and Memory Care, an 80-unit community in Cypress, Texas, that is scheduled to open later this month.

Nonprofit Community in Houston Breaks Ground on $12.8 Million Expansion

Parkway Place, a nonprofit faith-based senior living community in Houston, is undergoing a $12.8 million renovation and expansion project that includes a new skilled nursing and rehabilitation center.

The renovation project will transform the skilled nursing rooms into private suites, which will reduce the total number of units there to 40. The project also includes the addition of a bistro-style dining venue, as well as renovation of the existing dining rooms, activity rooms, sitting areas and common spaces. It also will add new lighting and flooring as well as handrails to improve safety.

Parkway Place partnered with Hill and Wilkinson General Contractors, D2 Architecture and interior designer Spellman Brady & Company for the project, which is expected to finish later this year in the fall.

Work for 55+ Community Near Denver Almost Done

A 55+ mixed-use residential rental apartment community in the Denver metro area is nearly ready to open its doors.

Located in Littleton, Colorado, the 159-unit community is being developed by Zocalo Community Development and designed by KTGY Architecture + Planning. Amenities at the community include a saltwater pool, a year-round hot tub, community garden, pet spa and pet-friendly play park, bike and walking trails, fitness and yoga studios, community and craft rooms, a bicycle maintenance and repair shop and community kitchens.

The community, which is pursuing U.S. Green Building Council LEED Gold certification, has a number of green features, such as solar panels, high-performance sink faucets, showerheads, and dual-flush toilets, and paints, adhesives, sealants and carpets designed to limit VOC (volatile organic compounds).

Belmont Village Opens California Community

Belmont Village Senior Living has opened a new senior living community in Calabasas, California.

The three-story, Mediterranean-style building has 140 assisted living and memory care residences and includes access to amenities such as a fitness center, heated saltwater pool, salon, screening room, and courtyards with outdoor dining patios and gardens.

The community was designed by architects Van Tilburg, Banvard & Soderbergh and constructed by W.E. O’Neil Construction Company.

Erickson Living CCRC Opens Fitness and Aquatics Center

Oak Crest, an Erickson Living retirement community in Baltimore County, Maryland, recently celebrated the opening of a news fitness and aquatics center.

The new pool is roughly three times larger the pool it replaced, and residents can use the aquatics center for individual free swims or take group classes such as water aerobics and volleyball. The new 24/7 fitness center has treadmills, exercise bikes, cybercycles, seated and standing elliptical machines, Nu Steps, free weights, HUR strength-training equipment, resistant bands and a stretching machine.

The new center is part of a new “town center” project under constriction that, when fully open, will have two new dining venues, additional meeting space and an expanded welcome area. A renovated library, salon and classroom have already opened in the space, along with the Quarry Grill, a casual dining venue for lunch and dinner.

Active Adult Community in Georgia Unveils New Clubhouse

Kolter Homes, a developer of master-planned active adult communities in the Southeast U.S., announces the grand opening of a new clubhouse at its Cresswind Peachtree City community in Peachtree, Georgia.

The new clubhouse will have amenities such as a pool with lap lanes, spa, demonstration kitchen, arts and crafts room, lounge area with billiards, ballroom and fitness center with a yoga and aerobics studio. Enrichment opportunities include cooking classes, group fitness classes, classes, volunteer programs and a variety of clubs ranging from fishing, billiards, arts and crafts and pickleball.

The community will hold a grand opening event for the new clubhouse in May.

— A non-profit senior living community in Greenville, South Carolina, is planning to expand its campus with 60 new independent living units and 23 homes and duplexes.

— The city of Green Township, Ohio, will get a new 117-unit assisted living and memory care community next year.

— Local officials are mulling a proposal to add 26 units to a senior living community in Coldwater, Michigan.

— Work is scheduled to begin soon for a 56-unit senior living community in Athens, Alabama.

— A developer has proposed building a 45-home campus for seniors in Cobb County, Georgia.

— A 104-unit senior living community in Waukesha, Wisconsin, is looking to add a 28-bed memory care residence.

— Weston, Florida, is on track to get a 320-unit independent living, assisted living and memory care community called The Palace at Weston.

— A controversial 15-story senior living project has won approval from local officials in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

— A 10-story senior living project is in the works for Long Beach, California.

— Brightview Senior Living is seeking to convert an empty building in Wayne, New Jersey, into a 190-unit senior living community.

—Construction is now underway for an $11 million renovation and expansion project at a senior living community in Manheim Township, Pennsylvania.
