Five Star Senior Living Names Adam Portnoy as Managing Director

Five Star Senior Living (Nasdaq: FVE) announced that Adam Portnoy was elected as its new managing director.

Portnoy, 47, was elected in order to fill a vacancy on the board left by the unexpected passing of Barry Portnoy, Five Star’s founder and one of its managing directors. He is also the managing director, president and CEO of The RMR Group (Nasdaq: RMR) and an owner of ABP Trust, whose wholly owned subsidiary owns approximately 36% of Five Star’s outstanding common stock.

“I have worked with Adam for 15 years and confident in his ability to help lead Five Star into the future,” Five Star CEO Bruce Mackey said during the operator’s fourth-quarter earnings call Wednesday.

New Senior Investment Group Gets New Board Member

New Senior Investment Group (NYSE: SNR) recently increased the size of its board of directors to eight members and appointed David Milner as an independent director.

Milner’s term will expire at the 2019 annual meeting of stockholders, the company reported.

The New York City-based real estate investment trust (REIT) made headlines last month when its leadership announced they were exploring “strategic alternatives,” a sign to investors that a companywide sale could be in the works.

IPA Hires Senior Housing Director

Institutional Property Advisors (IPA), a division of Marcus & Millichap (NYSE: MMI), has hired Jordyn Berger as a director of the firm’s senior housing group.

In her new role, Berger will focus on structuring and arranging debt, mezzanine and equity capital for owners, operators and developers of independent living, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing facilities.

Berger most recently served as director of acquisitions for private equity- backed assisted living owner-operator Enlivant, and as acquisitions manager for Ventas (NYSE: VTR).

HJ Sims Welcomes New Assistant Vice President

Investment bank and wealth management firm HJ Sims announced John Williford has joined the firm as assistant vice president of investment banking.

In his new role, Williford will support the company’s banking business in the Southwest and Southeast markets. Prior to joining HJ Sims, Williford worked for FTN Financial Capital Markets, where he served as the primary quantitative and support banker in Texas and the Southeast.

Heritage Senior Living Hires Regional Hospitality and Culinary Director

Heritage Senior Living hired Antonio Evans to fill its newly created regional director of hospitality and culinary position.

In the new role, Evans will supervise all aspects of Heritage’s hospitality offerings, including culinary, lodging, entertainment, leisure and wellness programs. He will also help develop specialized resident programs, train culinary and hospitality staffers and form partnerships with culinary and hospitality schools.

Evans joined Heritage Senior Living from Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin-based restaurant MOXIE, where he was head chef and general manager.

Erickson Living Communities Near Baltimore Name Health Insurance Resources Manager

Oak Crest and Charlestown, two Erickson Living retirement communities in Baltimore County, Maryland, have named Jennifer Simon as health insurance resources manager.

In her new role, Simon will help residents with their health insurance coverage, including Medicare, Erickson Advantage and long-term care. Simon, who has more than 25 years of sales experience, previously worked for F&G Life, APWU Health Plan and Transamerica Corporation.

Integral Community Near Chicago Hires New Executive Director

Travanse Living at Wheaton, an Integral Senior Living community in Wheaton, Illinois, has hired Matthew Gonzalez as its executive director.

Gonzalez’s new responsibilities include overseeing the community’s day-to-day operations and team management, hiring all department heads and care staff and coordinating with Integral.

Prior to joining Travanse Living, Gonzalez spent three years as executive director of the nearby Autumn Leaves of Orland Park assisted living community.

Buckner Names New Executive Director for Texas Community

Buckner Retirement Services has appointed David Sims as executive director of its Buckner Westminster Place continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Longview, Texas.

Sims is tasked with handling day-to-day activities, managing employees and keeping satisfaction high for residents and their loved ones.

Massachusetts Community Names New Memory Care Director

Wingate Residences at Melbourne Place, a Wingate Healthcare community in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, has named Cara Holcomb as its new memory care director.

In her new role, Holcomb will manage the day-to-day operations of the assisted living community’s memory care program, The Neighborhood.

Holcomb is a certified dementia practitioner and activities director who has over 25 years of experience in the senior living industry. Most recently, she served as program director for another senior living community’s memory care unit.

Forthcoming Community in North Carolina Hires Culinary Manager

Waltonwood Lake Boone, a community slated to open this year in Raleigh, North Carolina, has hired Bryan Minton as its culinary services manager.

In his new role, Minton will prepare meals for more than 200 residents in independent living, assisted living and memory care. He is a former military chef, and has 15 years of experience in the food industry.

The community’s chefs will prepare most of the food from-scratch, and with locally sourced ingredients. Waltonwood will offer three different menus, including one with low-sodium, low-carb and low-fat meal options. Other fare includes pizza, pasta, sandwiches and southern foods like chicken, potatoes and meatloaf.

North Carolina CCRC Names New Sales Director

The Cardinal at North Hills, a Kisco Senior Living CCRC in Raleigh, North Carolina, has appointed Lynn Lowe as its new sales director.

In the new role, Lowe will help develop a “vibrant sales culture” and oversee the entire sales process, the community’s executive director announced. She will also focus on building relationships with current and prospective residents, organizations in the local community and her sales team.

Prior to joining The Cardinal, Lowe was a new homes sales consultant and realtor for Royal Oak Homes.

California Community Appoints Director of Sales and Marketing

Sagebrook Senior Living at Carmichael, a Sagebrook Senior Living community in Carmichael, California, has named Natalie McNeal as its new director of sales and marketing.

McNeal brings to her new job 26 years of corporate experience, with most of that time spent as a program and project manager.
