Sunrise to Save Historic Barn as Part of Connecticut Assisted Living Project

Sunrise Senior Living has announced it will preserve a historic barn located on a plot of land slated for development of a new assisted living community in Wilton, Connecticut.

The senior living operator agreed to cover the cost of disassembling the structure in order to donate the structure to the Wilton Historical Society, according to a press release. The society is planning to store the 19th-century building and fundraise to restore and repurpose it.

Sunrise’s plans call for the development of a 90-unit assisted living community, reported the Connecticut Post in November.

Developers of Wooden Highrise Plotting Senior Living Community in Oregon

The developers behind Carbon12, a 12-story timber tower in Portland, Oregon, are working on a new development in the city that would include senior housing.

Kaiser Group, PATH Architecture, and Tokyo- based Hoosiers Corporation are collaborating on The Canyons, a mixed-use project with 70 apartments, including senior housing, and 11 live-work units with storefronts, reported the Portland Business Journal. Like Carbon12, this development would use innovative wooden building materials such as such as cross-laminated timber.

R&H Construction is project’s contractor. Construction crews are scheduled to break ground on the development in September and finish construction by the end of 2019.

Welltower Involved in $40 Million Development in North Carolina

Welltower Inc. (NYSE: HCN) has a hand in the development of a $40 million, 152-unit senior living community in Apex, North Carolina.

The real estate investment trust (REIT) is collaborating on the project, called The Reserve at Mills Farm, with Navion Senior Solutions and NorthView Partners, reported the Triangle Business Journal. As planned, the community will have independent living, assisted living and memory care services. Amenities include a movie theater, game and billiards room, spa, and rehabilitation and athletic center.

Construction is slated to begin later this month, with an expected opening date in 2019.

$123 Million Senior Living Tower Planned in Milwaukee

St. John’s Communities is planning to construct a 22-story community to replace its three-story, 74-unit nursing care and assisted living community in Milwaukee, according to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel.

The towering community will have about 170 units and open in the spring of 2020, the senior living provider noted. The tower will also contain a lecture hall and performance space and two levels of underground parking.

The development’s architects are Eppstein Uhen and Blitch Knevel, while VJS Construction Services is the general contractor for the project.

55+ Community in Arizona Grows 50 Acres

Palm Creek Golf and RV Resort, an age-restricted community in Casa Grande, Arizona, is adding 50 more acres to its sprawling property, according to a press release.

Expansion plans call for 99 additional RV sites, more lots to accommodate custom homes, two new fenced pet parks, a new complex with pool and other amenities, a pro shop and gift shop, an epanded bistro with indoor and outdoor dining options, and 17,845 square feet of ballroom space and event facilities.

The new home offerings will include two-bedroom, two-bath cottage homes starting at $94,000 and two-bath village homes are available starting at $124,000. The manufactured homes are built by Cavco and Champion, and residents will have the option to customize their dwellings with exterior patios, oversized sheds, garages, and RV parking.

Construction for the expansion and upgrades is already underway and are expected to finish by the spring of 2018.

Virginia CCRC Unveils $57 Million Expansion

Residents at the Brandermill Woods Retirement Community near Richmond, Virginia, have some new digs.

The community recently unveiled a new $57 million upgrade that included a new wellness and fitness center, chapel, movie theater, more dining options and two activities and game rooms, reported the Richmond Times-Dispatch.

With the renovations behind it, the community now has a total of 159 apartments and 118 cottages for rentals.

— The Cedars Senior Living Community, an independent living community in Queensbury, New York, is expanding by adding 32 more units.

— A 135-unit independent living, assisted living and memory care community is in the works in Kensington, Maryland.

— Locals in Solon, Ohio, will vote in May on a rezoning proposal that would pave the way for a $30 million, 150-unit senior living community.

— Delmar Gardens, a St. Louis-based senior living provider, is seeking approval from the state of Missouri to add dozens of assisted living beds at two of its senior living communities.

— A stalled development in Chicago could get new life as a towering mixed-use development that would include senior housing.

— Nonprofit Otterbein Senior Lifestyle Choices plans to repurpose a building on its on its 200-acre campus in Lebanon, Ohio, and build 16 independent living patio homes in nearby St. Marys.

— Homestead Assisted Living in Fallon, Nevada, is beefing up its memory care wing by adding a dozen more beds.

— Seniors in Carthage, Missouri, will soon benefit from a 36-apartment residential complex for people ages 62 and older.

— A new memory care community is poised to open soon in Vandalia, Illinois.

— A shuttered elementary school in Frankfort, Maine, has reopened as an assisted living community with room for 16 people.

— DePaul Senior Living has opened a 55,000-square-foot assisted living and memory care community in Tonawanda, New York.

— An 88-unit assisted living and memory care community called The Heritage at Sagewood has opened in Grand Island, Nebraska.
