Entrepreneurs Pitch to Brookdale Residents in ‘Shark Tank’ Style Event

Six Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE: BKD) residents did their best Mark Cuban and Barbara Corcoran impressions during a special event at the Health:Further conference in Nashville Wednesday morning.

Earlier this year, Brentwood, Tennessee-based Brookdale announced it had partnered with Health:Further, a Tennessee-based organization that specializes in innovation partner programs and holds an annual technology event in Nashville by the same name.

During Wednesday’s event, a half dozen Brookdale residents listened to brief, ‘Shark Tank’-style pitches from representatives of six different tech companies: Luna Lights, Belle, Teledoc, Collage.care, Life Detection Technologies and k9 Fit Club. Then, after a short rapid-fire question and answer session, the residents graded each company based on how much the product appealed to them.

The winner, which is slated to be revealed Thursday afternoon, gets to present at a Health:Further closing session and participate in the Healthbox Chicago Studio startup program in October. Brookdale also plans to engage in further discussions with the winning tech company for potential pilot programs.

Brookdale is no stranger to experimenting with interesting technology. In the past, the senior living giant has tested whole-body dryers, smart television devices and virtual reality headsets.

The company also has a program called Entrepreneur in Residence, where chosen entrepreneurs live amongst residents in a Brookdale community for a few days. There, the entrepreneurs gain feedback by testing their products with willing residents and caregivers.
