Capital Senior Living Appoints New Board Members
Capital Senior Living Corporation (NYSE: CSU), one of the nation’s largest operators of senior housing communities, announced the appointments of Paul J. Isaac and Ross B. Levin of Arbiter Partners Capital Management, LLC to the company’s board of directors, effective March 7.
The appointments fill the vacant board seat following the passing of board member Keith Johannessen in December, and expand the board to 10 directors, nine of whom are independent. Arbiter and related parties currently own approximately 4.49 million shares of Capital Senior Living, standing as the company’s largest shareholder.
Isaac is the founder and CEO of Arbiter and has a range of investment experience. He currently serves as director of Irex Corporation. Levin is the director of research for Arbiter, serves as director of Mood Media Corporation, and is a former director of American Community Properties Trust and Presidential Life Corporation.
“We look forward to leveraging Paul and Ross’ insights as we continue to execute on our long-term, real estate strategy and enhance value for all shareholders,” Capital Senior Living CEO and Vice Chairman Larry A. Cohen said.
The LaSalle Group Announces Leadership Appointments
The LaSalle Group, Inc., a family-owned and operated memory care and assisted living provider, announced leadership appointments in the wake of expansion of its communities.
John W. Barbee was promoted to president of The LaSalle Group. He has more than 30 years of experience in real estate development and construction, and 10 years with the company specifically in assisted living. He will lead the execution of LaSalle’s strategic business and financial partnerships and oversee certain aspects of the company’s daily operations. He will also continue to manage development, construction and design, and provide organizational leadership across the company.
Jessica C. Akaah was also elected as vice chairman of the board of directors. Akaah is a member of the founding ownership family, and previously served as senior vice president of management, as well as various roles in regional and community leadership over the past 10 years. In her new role, she will work to broaden board membership to include non-family directors with a broad range of industry experience.
Eagle’s Trace Selects New Director of Resident Life
Eagle’s Trace, one of 19 continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) managed by Erickson Living in Houston, Texas, promoted Kristin Malejan to director of resident life.
Malejan has more than 11 years of experience in the senior living industry, and at Eagle’s Trace, she has served as resident life manager and a licensed social worker. Previously, she was the director of resident and family services at Silverado Care.
In her new role, Malejan will provide oversight and support in several areas that impact the daily lives of more than 775 residents at the community, including community resources, fitness and wellness services, volunteer programming, social work services and more.
“As Eagle’s Trace grows, providing a positive resident experience is more important than ever,” Eagle’s Trace Executive Director Stephen Aigner said in a news release. “Kristin has proven herself to be a compassionate and creative leader who engages with residents across our continuum of care. Promoting her to director of resident life is a natural progression and a reward for the innovative programming and expertise she has developed during her tenure at our community.”
LifeSpire of Virginia Welcomes New Executive Director in Richmond
LifeSpire of Virginia welcomed Barrett P. Way as executive director of Lakewood, a LifeSpire CCRC located in Richmond. Way is currently the executive director of Westminster Village in Terre Haute, Indiana, managed by Life Care Services.
“We are pleased to welcome Mr. Way to lead the Lakewood community,” LifeSpire President and CEO Jonathan Cook said in a news release. “His background in senior living and health care administration, and his proven track record of success in community expansion, financial stewardship and resident focus will serve Lakewood well.”
LCB Senior Living Appoints Sales and Marketing Director
LCB Senior Living, LLC, owner and operator of The Residence at Silver Square in Dover, New Hampshire, appointed Heidi Morrison as the community’s sales and marketing director.
Morrison previously managed a number of marketing projects, from retail to radio and magazine. Most recently, she served as real estate and recruitment manager for Ogden Newspapers/Telegraph in Nashua, where she was responsible for multimedia advertising and PR. The Residence at Silver Square is set to open in fall 2017 and will include independent living, assisted living and memory care.
Azura Memory Care Adds New Regional RN
Azura Memory Care added Christine Murphy as a new regional Registered Nurse for the company’s Clinton and Stoughton locations in Wisconsin.
Murphy has been a nurse for more than 12 years, with experience in NICU, cardiovascular and long-term care of the developmentally and intellectually disabled.
