So How Big Is America’s Largest Retirement Community, Anyway?

How big is America’s largest retirement community? By most measures, it’s really, really big.

The Villages, a Florida retirement community, is already home to some of the largest operators in senior living, Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE: BKD) included. And it promises to get even bigger as the result of a partnership announced this month between Titan Senior Living and KR Management that will build 3,000 more senior care beds. Currently, there are 1,107 combined beds of independent living, assisted living, memory care and specialized nursing care serving The Villages, with an additional 1,900 beds under construction or in pre-development by The Villages team.

But the community itself has garnered the interest of mainstream media lately for its size in comparison to other major metros in the U.S. With upwards of 114,000 residents and counting, as of 2014 census data, at 5.4% population growth year over year, here’s how the community stacks up against other growing U.S. metros.

On the basis of overall population, The Villages also stacks up against fast-growing U.S. communities such as Midland, Texas; Bend, Ore.; and Naples, Fla.
