Dominion Senior Living Names New Executive Director

Dominion Senior Living of Johnson City, Tenn., has welcomed Michelle Bolling as the community’s executive director, as it prepares to open in April. 

The faith-based senior living community will offer 45 assisted living and 15 memory care apartments.

Bolling completed her associate degree at Northeast State Technical Community College, bachelor’s degree from Milligan College, and Masters of Business Administration from King University.

She has been certified in Tennessee as an administrator at Adult Care Living Facilities (ACLF) since 2003. She received the Assisted Living Federation of America’s (ALFA) “Champion for Seniors” Award in 2010 and attended its Executive Director Leadership Institute in 2013. 

Currently, Bolling is looking to hire key staff members to serve seniors in various capacities and shifts. Applications are currently being accepted for various management, caregiver, dining and housekeeping roles.

Health Care REIT Appoints VP to Lead Toronto Office

Health Care REIT, Inc. (NYSE: HCN) recently announced the addition of Colin Catherwood as vice president – investments, Canada.

Catherwood will lead HCN’s new office in Toronto, Ontario. He is responsible for managing HCN’s Canadian portfolio and identifying and managing growth opportunities in Canada.

Catherwood has 15 years of experience in real estate, senior housing, health care and corporate finance in Canada. He most recently served as partner for Brookfield Financial, a global investment bank with headquarters in Toronto that is affiliated with Brookfield Asset Management. While at Brookfield, he worked closely with many of HCN’s existing Canadian partners, including Revera and Chartwell.

“Colin’s relationships and track record of success will enable us to build on our excellent market position in Canada,” said Tom DeRosa, HCN’s CEO. “The positive demographics and evolving health care landscape in Canada present substantial growth opportunities for HCN. Covenant Retirement Communities Hires Director of Assisted Living Operations

Chicago-based Covenant Retirement Communities, Inc. (CRC) announced recently that it has selected Jillian Thomas as its director of assisted living operations.

In this position, she will be responsible for the coordination and operational oversight of CRC’s assisted living option within its 13 retirement communities nationwide.

Additionally, Thomas will be responsible for development, facilitation and implementation of standards for assisted living throughout the CRC communities.

Thomas has more than 10 years of health care and management experience in the senior housing industry. Prior to joining CRC, she began her career as a certified nursing assistant and served as the executive director at Paradise Park Assisted Living and Memory Care, which is an 80-bed, multi-building community in northern Illinois, in 2005.

As executive director, Thomas was responsible for overseeing the financial and operational performance of the facility; maintaining awareness and compliance with all governmental, legal and competitive factors; and acting as a liaison to community organizations and businesses.

She is a certified nurse assistant and dementia practitioner, and holds a certification in assisted living administration in Wisconsin. Thomas is a member of Leading Age Illinois and has a seat on the cabinet for assisted living, and is certified as a support group facilitator for the Alzheimer’s Association.

New Scarsdale, N.Y., Community Welcomes Director of Clinical Services

Vivian Pasternak, who has more than 20 years of geriatric nursing experience, has been named director of clinical services for The Ambassador, the new assisted living and memory care community opening this month in Scarsdale, N.Y.

Pasternak will be responsible for administering and directing the community’s policies and procedures as well as ensuring resident care and wellness. She will establish the standards in nursing care and practices and supervise a team of employees.

Prior to joining The Ambassador, Pasternak was involved in opening of the New York State Veterans Home in Montrose. She has worked in various positions with the Mary Manning Walsh Home in New York City, including nursing administration, care planning and assessment as assistant director of nursing, director of nursing and director of quality management.

Pasternak is a graduate of Binghamton University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in nursing. She worked in hospital-based nursing at the Yale New Haven Hospital, Cornell Weil Medical Center and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.

Lancaster Pollard Announces Promotions of Health Care Banking Staff

Columbus, Ohio-based Lancaster Pollard recently announced the promotions of several members of its health care banking staff. The firm, which provides capital funding, M&A and investment advisory services, announced the promotions of Jason Dopoulos, Tom Gale, Quintin Harris, Matt Lindsay and Chris Mauger to senior vice president.

Jason Dopoulos is based in the firm’s Newport Beach, Calif., office and has been with Lancaster Pollard for seven years. He is a vice chair of the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing & Care’s (NIC) Future Leaders Council and has structured a wide range of bond transactions and mortgage loans for expansion, new construction and refinance projects.

Tom Gale has been with Lancaster Pollard for six years and works out of the firm’s Philadelphia office. He represents Virginia, Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia and Washington, D.C. and is responsible for assisting health care organizations with bond financings, mortgage placements, debt capacity planning and interest rate risk management.

Quintin Harris, currently based in the firm’s Kansas City office, has been with Lancaster Pollard since 2005 and is the lead health care banker for clients in Minnesota and Iowa. He will be opening a new office in Minneapolis later this year.

Matt Lindsay is the regional manager for the Rocky Mountain and Pacific Northwest regions. He has been with the firm for eight years and has provided an extensive range of capital financing structures to health care clients in the seven states in his region.

Chris Mauger is senior vice president of Lancaster Pollard Fund Manager LLC and oversees the sourcing, structuring, underwriting, closing and management of investments in Lancaster Pollard’s proprietary private equity fund, ProperoTM Seniors Housing Equity Fund.

EPOCH Community Names Executive Director 

Jake Quigley has been named executive director of Boylston Place at Chestnut Hill in Massachusetts, an EPOCH independent and assisted living community.

Prior to joining EPOCH, Quigley served as executive director for several Boston-area senior living communities. He started his career as a nursing home administrator for Meadowlark Hills in Kansas, which was going through culture change as skilled nursing shifted from winged nursing homes to household models of care.

Quigley also spent five years in the Navy working in hospitals as a health care administrator. The Navy relocated Quigley from his native Kansas to New England, where he chose to remain and continue his career in long-term care.

In addition to serving as executive director at Boylston Place, Quigley is an adjunct faculty member at Regis College in Weston where he teaches graduate courses in gerontology for nurse practitioner students. 

South Carolina Community Welcomes Sales Counselor

The Woodlands at Furman, based in Greenville, S.C., continues to grow with the addition of Sara Thompson as senior living sales counselor.

Thompson has more than 10 years of nonprofit senior living sales and marketing experience, and most recently served as director of marketing and communication for Integrace, a nonprofit senior living organization in Maryland.

Brookdale’s Trinity Towers Appoints Executive Director

Paul Harrison has been named executive director of Trinity Towers, overseeing all of its daily operations, programming and care.

Trinity Towers, operated by Brookdale Senior Living (NYSE: BKD) is a continuing care retirement community (CCRC) in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Harrison previously was the health care administrator for Brookdale Westlake Hills, a senior living community in Austin.

He received a master of health care administration and bachelor of health care administration from Texas State University and served in the United States Army.
