Ecumen Targets Younger Residents with $20 Million Proposed Co-op
Ecumen, a non-profit senior living organization based in Shoreview, Minn., is developing an age-55 and older co-op in the Glen Lake neighborhood of Minnetonka, reports Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
The proposed $20 million project calls for a 58-unit complex to be located on the north shore of Glen Lake near two other senior housing developments.
Under the co-op structure, residents own shares of the corporation that owns the building, enabling them tax advantages of homeownership and a voice in the building’s management.
The proposed project is the first of five senior co-ops Ecumen plans to pursue in the Twin Cities.
Developer Plans $12 Million Retrofit of Navy Base Hotel into Senior Housing
Maine developer Rousseau Enterprises plans to convert a the former U.S. Navy hotel in Brunswick into a 122-unit senior housing apartment complex, reports Bangor Daily News.
After receiving approval from the Brunswick Planning Department in late September, Rousseau hopes to break ground on the $12 million retrofit, which includes a 6,600-square-foot expansion, in November.
Project plans submitted to the town detail that a division would take place, separating the 68,600-square-foot hotel into 82 studio, one- and two-bedroom apartments. The remaining 40 units would be reserved for occupants of the Skolfield House assisted living community on nearby Cumberland Street.

Sentio REIT Breaks Ground on $22.4 Million Missouri Community
Sentio Healthcare Properties, Inc. announced Tuesday the development of The Parkway in Blue Springs, Missouri.
Located east of downtown Kansas City, the $22.4 million project is currently under construction and will offer a total of 142 units including independent living, assisted living (34) and memory care (32).
For The Parkway, Sentio entered into a joint venture with O’Reilly Development Company. Upon completion, which is anticipated during the summer of 2015, St. Louis-based operator Arrow Senior Living will manage the community.
Discovery Senior Living Breaks Ground on $30 Million Sarasota Bay Project
Bonita Spring, Fla.-based Discovery Senior Living this week held a groundbreaking ceremony in celebration of the commencement of construction for its newest community, Discovery Village At Sarasota Bay.
Approximately 100 workers will build the $30 million, 130,000-square-foot community, which is expected to be completed by November 2015.
Project plans for the community include a Grande Clubhouse building that comprises a three-story wing of 30 apartment homes for independent living; a three-story wing of 66 apartments homes for assisted living and a one-story wing of 30 memory care suites.
Minn. Nonprofit Building $60 Million Senior Housing Community
St. Therese, a faith-based non-profit senior housing provider based in St. Louis Park, Minnesota, broke ground Thursday on a 216-unit senior housing facility in Woodbury, Minn.—a project that has been more than a year in the making, reports Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal.
Saint Therese of Woodbury will run total project costs of approximately $59.5 million to built the community, which will include one- and two- bedroom independent living apartments, assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing care units.
The city’s Housing and Redevelopment Authority approved up to $55 million in revenue bonds to finance construction, acquisition and equipping the facility.
Champlin, Minn.-based CBS Construction Services Inc. is the general contractor for the project.
Construction Underway on $21 Million Lighthouse of Howard Community
Developers of the Lighthouse of Howard senior housing community in Howard, Wisconsin, broke ground Tuesday on the 130-unit project, reports Green Bay Press Gazette.
Evidence Development Companies, of Hubertus, Wisc., is building the community that will feature restaurant-style dining, salon, library, computer room, fitness area, therapy pool, pub, bistro, community rooms, private family dining and outdoor patios.
Upon completion, Eden Prairie, Minn.-based New Perspective Senior Living will manage the facility.
McFarlin Group Breaks Ground on 115-Unit Assisted Living Project
Dallas-based developer and owner McFarlin Group recently broke ground on its eighth senior living community, a 115-unit assisted living and memory care facility located in Allen, Texas.
The Heritage at Twin Creeks Assisted Living and Memory Care is currently under construction on a site situated across from Texas Presbyterian Allen hospital.
The community will feature two interior landscaped courtyards, private dining amenities, a special events venue, spa/salon, and more, McFarlin Group stated in a release.
Twin Creeks is one of the latest developments McFarlin has underway for the Texas area. Earlier this month, the company announced construction plans for a 120-unit assisted living and memory care facility in San Antonio.
Prestige Care Starts Construction for New Post-Acute Care Center
Prestige Care, a Vancouver, Wash.-based senior living provider, this week announced it has broken ground on construction of a new center in Edmonds, Wash., to serve post-acts care and rehabilitation patients.
The Prestige Care and Rehabilitation of Edmonds facility will replace Prestige’s previous center. The new 48,782-square-foot center will feature private and two-bedroom suites as well as shared spaces meant to help patients recover and smoothly transition back to their homes and communities.
A therapy gym, robust activity center, peaceful gardens, restaurant-style dining and community lounges will also be included in the project plans.
Prestige Care anticipates an opening in November 2015.
The Lodge of Northbrook Begins New Expansion Phase
In response to a growing demand for more independent senior living options, The Lodge of Northbrook in Illinois this week said it has completed its second phase of construction and announced plans to add 18 additional homes and amenities to its existing campus.
When completed, The Lodge will have approximately 100 homes. Its most recent phase included the opening of 20 new homes, bringing the community’s total tally up to 78.
Developed and managed by Omaha, Neb.-based Essex Communities, The Lodge of Northbrook hopes to add the 18 additional units along with a casual restaurant by late fall 2015.

Sagora Senior Living, The Covenant Group Near Opening of New Texas Community
The Westmore, a senior living campus currently being developed by Fort Worth-based companies The Covenant Group and operated by Sagora Senior Living, is ready to celebrate a grand opening next month in Westworth Village, Texas.
The community, which will open its doors November 13, will offer independent, assisted living and memory care services to its residents, including the company’s Care Complete enhances assisted living care program.
In total, The Westmore will accommodate 152 residents—59 assisted living apartments, 40 independent living apartments, 23 memory care and 30 Care Complete residences.
