Galleries, Theatre Rank High for Top Arts-Focused Senior Living Communities

Thirty retirement communities nationwide have proven to be the best spots for seniors to indulge in culture and the arts, with Georgia-based Reynolds Plantation topping the list.

The rankings are made by BestRetirementDestinations.com, an independent authority on retirement communities.

This month’s Culture & Arts rankings are based on five criteria: Galleries & Museums (quantity and proximity of cultural opportunities), Theatrical Arts (the presence of a space within the community for performance events), Culinary Diversity (food available at the community and restaurants nearby), Social Networking (opportunities available for resident gatherings) and Safety/Security (the level of the security force on duty).

Reynolds Plantation, located between Atlanta and Augusta, Ga., received excellent ratings for the first four criteria and a “very good” rating for the last. The community ranges in price from $500,000 to $1 million, and is situated along 374 miles of shoreline on Lake Oconee with 117 holes of championship golf.

The community has received numerous other awards for its amenities, including its tennis center, golf courses and lakefront resort and spa.

Among the other top-five contenders are The Ritz-Carlton Residences in Vail, Colo., Grande Villas Indian Beach in Indian Beach, N.C., Dove Mountain in Marana, Ariz., and The Cloister Ocean Residences in Sea Island, Ga. These four retirement communities received excellent ratings in at least three criteria, and “very good” ratings in the other two areas.
