The senior housing industry is evolving and continues to see an increase in new developments coming online nationwide, especially in Colorado, which continues to see a growing interest from developers and other professionals in the senior living space.
Building on last year’s success, the second annual 2014 Senior Housing Conference & Expo presented by the Colorado Real Estate Journal and Husch Blackwell LLP returns Tuesday, May 6 to Englewood, CO.
The event is Colorado’s largest gathering of senior housing owners, operators, developers, investors, lenders, among other real estate professionals.
“There’s so much interest in development in Colorado,” says Elisabeth Borden, principal, The Highland Group. “Existing operators and developers already in this market are concerned and want to get the big picture of what else is being planned. Developers look forward to the conference as an opportunity to meet other players and learn about what others are planning.”
A number of panel discussions will cover a range of topics, including the latest trends in senior living construction and design, various finance strategies for new senior housing development, as well as a big picture view of the current state of senior housing.
Other areas of discussion will also include what product types can the industry expect to see on the market in the next 2-3 years, as well as where new development opportunities lie in a market brimming with new construction, says Kevin Kelley, partner, Husch Blackwell LLP.
“As The Highland Group has reported, the senior housing construction pipeline is brimming with memory care units and market-rate 55+ apartments,” Kelley says. “The ratio of construction to existing inventory for those products is far greater than for other senior housing products, such as skilled nursing, assisted living, highly serviced independent living and affordable 55+ apartments. So one of the questions we will discuss is whether we are bringing the right mix of senior housing to the market.”
