Based on customer satisfaction ratings and reviews of senior living communities nationwide, online resource SeniorAdvisor.com has compiled the “best of” senior living for 2013.
Across assisted living, independent living and memory care, the organization has awarded recognition of excellence to communities that received a 4.5-star rating out of five stars from residents and their families.
The ratings are compiled by state and can be accessed on the SeniorAdvisor.com website, with several overall provider winners showcased as those that received higher ratings overall than their peers.
The awards were presented to more than 500 communities out of 100,000 tracked by SeniorAdvisor.com, says company President Eric Seifert, based on feedback and reviews aggregated by the company.
“One of our founding principles was to celebrate the best communities for the markets we’re in,” Seifert told SHN. “We had enough information and reviews that we felt we could do that in a satisfactory way. We have always had the plan of celebrating the best communities.”
SeniorAdvisor.com plans for the awards to take place annually, and serve as a way for communities to stand out among their competition with the validation that comes from a third-party review site.
“We’re trying to concentrate on consumers and increase their confidence level,” Seifert said. “We want to make them feel more comfortable about their decision to move in to a community. It’s a powerful message when community manager can tell [a prospective resident] ‘We were recently awarded an award only given to the top 1% of communities.’ It could be game changing for a community trying to increase occupancy.”
The five senior living companies were chosen for excellence among their peers, SeniorAdvisor.com says, based on reviews and ratings from consumers across all of their communities. The winners include Capri Senior Communities, Spectrum Retirement Communities, Hawthorn Retirement Group, Leisure Care/One Eighty and Atria Senior Living.
Those receiving excellence awards had an average rating of at least 4.5 stars with some states outperforming others.
California represented 15% of the winning communities with Texas representing 8%.
