Omega Healthcare Investors Ranked Fifth Among Best-Performing REITs

Omega Healthcare Investors Inc. (NYSE:OHI) is the fifth-best performing U.S. real estate investment trust year-to-date in 2013, according to the SNL US REIT Equity Index.

Only 12 REITs had outperformed the S&P 500 as of mid-November, when the rankings were released.

OHI was the only healthcare-focused REIT on the list. The top-performing US REIT was Altisource Residential Corp., focused on single-family real estate, followed by CommonWealth REIT, with an office real estate focus, and FelCor Lodging Trust Inc. and Chatham Lodging Trust, both hotel REITs.

OHI had total shareholder returns of slightly more than 40%.

W. P. Carey Inc. was the largest equity REIT to make it into the top-15 performers. The diversified portfolio investor has a market cap of $4.38 million, followed by Hospitality Properties Trust, a hotel REIT with a market cap of nearly $4.1 million, and then OHI, with a market cap of nearly $3.9 million.
