The Ensign Group Buys Texas Skilled Nursing Facility at 59% Occupancy

The Ensign Group, Inc. (NASDAQ:ENSG) announced on Tuesday it had acquired a 150-bed skilled nursing facility located in Paris, Tex. for an undisclosed price.

A subsidiary of Keystone Care, Inc. will operate Paris Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, which was 59% occupied at time of acquisition. The prior owners opened operations on the relatively new facility in July 2008.

The transaction, effective June 1, increases the skilled nursing operator’s presence in the northeast Texas market, said Ensign president and CEO Christopher Christensen.

Ensign made the purchase with cash, bringing its portfolio to 105 healthcare facilities, 80 of which are Ensign-owned; three hospice companies, five home health businesses, and two urgent care businesses. The company is actively seeking opportunities to acquire both well-performing and struggling skilled nursing, assisted living, and other healthcare-related businesses across the U.S.
