A Place for Mom Appoints Joan Lunden as Senior Housing Spokesperson

Senior living referral information service A Place for Mom recently announced that Joan Lunden, an award-winning journalist and former host of Good Morning America, will serve as the company’s spokesperson.

Lunden has extensive caregiving experience herself and has gone through the challenging process of looking for the right senior housing for her own mother.

“In addition to her stature as a well-respected journalist and author, Joan personally experienced many of the issues our clients face at a highly sensitive time in their lives,” said Sean Kell, CEO of A Place for Mom, in a statement. “As a caregiver, working mother and wife, Joan brings valuable insights and a unique ability to empathize with the people she will touch through this partnership. We believe she will help to highlight A Place for Mom as a go-to resource for families facing the very complex journey of finding senior housing for their loved ones.”

The new spokesperson is featured in a newly-released, nationwide advertising campaign that includes 30-, 60-, and 120-second commercial spots, with Lunden alongside families who have successfully used APFM’s services when finding housing for their loved ones. In her new role, Lunden will share her own personal story of being a caregiver to her mother while juggling a family and a career.

Lunden is the author of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Family Caregivers, and currently hosts “Taking Care with Joan Lunden,” an RLTV show about family caregiving. Her partnership with the APFM team comes just several months following Sean Kell’s appointment as the organization’s CEO.

  • I like Joan Lunden, I am sorry she is promoting this company. I have a problem with limited information they give customers – they do not give the "Aging In Place " option – they simply promote the Assisted Living Places on their list – and that's how they make their many – please investigate your Senior Service Advisers – make sure they explain ALL Options.

  • I agree with Marsha. APFM pushes senior living communities because they get a referral fee of several thousand dollars from these communities once a referral moves in. I worked with them in the past and they are basically a "lead feeder". It is better to use an eldercare advisor that truly works with each family to find the best solution for care.

  • I am saddened by Joan Lunden. It's one thing to trade on her name recognition being associated with "respectable" journalism to promote a book or build a new career path but it is wholly reprehensible to take advantage of public trust and use it to manipulate vulnerable members of society. She has fallen into the class of Henry Winkler et al promoting balloon mortgages and Montel Williams cannibalizing on the very people who gave them fame and fortune.
