New Senior Housing Developer Breaks Ground, Plans for 20 Memory Care Centers

A new Dallas-based senior housing operating company has formed with the specific goal of managing Memory Care Centers, or what it calls the “new generation” of memory care facilities. US Memory Care has broken ground on its first project, and plans to build up to 20 new centers in the southwestern United States over the course of the next four years.

The first project, a 58,000 square-foot facility in Colleyville, Texas, is the first of four projects planned in Texas for 2012. US Memory Care is partnering with America Development, a Dallas-based developer of healthcare facilities to complete the development of the memory care centers.

“US Memory Care is pleased to bring this facility to Colleyville, and is grateful for the widespread support it’s received from the city and community,” said Mike Spurlock, president and CEO of US Memory Care. “Elderly care, especially in the area of memory loss, must provide a safe and compassionate environment for the residents and the families they serve. The design of the facility will be unique to US Memory Care facilities.”

Each facility will provide housing and care for 75 memory care residents in large private and semi-private rooms within what the company calls self- contained “neighborhoods.” The neighborhoods will be developed around a centralized “Main Street” style common area designed to stimulate memories.
