Senior Housing Developers: Avoid Jersey Shore Cast as Neighbors

With property values beginning to show a defined bottom in some parts of the country, online real estate guru Zillow took a look at another culprit for having an impact on property desirability: neighbors. As it turns out, senior housing developers may want to avoid building in a certain New Jersey location…

Zillow’s annual survey polls U.S. adults to determine with whom they would—and would not—be pleased to share a fence, and the cast of MTV’s Jersey Shore reality TV show top the list of America’s worst neighbors for the second year in a row with 28% of the vote.

“As a voyeuristic culture that breathlessly tracks every celebrity movement, it’s extremely surprising to see so many Americans saying they wouldn’t like to live next to any celebrity at all. In fact, more people opted out of a celebrity neighbor in 2012 than in any of the past years we’ve run this poll,” said Amy Bohutinsky, Zillow chief marketing officer. “We may want to watch, read and talk about celebrities, but when it comes to sharing a back fence, many Americans think it’s just too close for comfort.”

Overall, more than 40% of Americans don’t want to live next to any celebrity, although 11% said they would like to live next to Denver Broncos quarterback Tim Tebow—the most desirable neighbor this year. Others in the top-10 for coveted celebrity neighbors include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie (10%) and Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux (9%).

Others ranked in the bottom included Charlie Sheen, Lindsay Lohan and Kim Kardashian. Something to do with drama?
