Henry Ford Signs Letter of Intent to Get Into Senior Housing

American House Senior Living Communities and REDICO, a real estate developer, have signed a letter of intent with Henry Ford to develop and operate senior housing at Cottage medical center.

The development would offer one and two bedroom private apartment and studio units for independent senior as well as options for seniors who require assistance with daily living activities. In addition, the development would offer one bedroom apartment and studio units for seniors with Alzheimer’s and other memory related conditions.

American House residents would have access to medical services at Cottage and across the street at the Henry Ford Medical Center-Pierson. Nearby shops, restaurants, a public library and accessible public parking are within walking distance.

“This would provide a much-needed resource for seniors and their caregivers in the Grosse Pointe, Harper Woods and St. Clair Shores communities,” says Edward O’Malley, M.D., physician in charge at the Cottage medical center and a Henry Ford ophthalmologist. “Henry Ford and American House share similar missions and values about serving the needs of the community.”

Cottage would continue to operate as an outpatient medical center, which offers 24-hour emergency care, women’s health, ambulatory surgery, lab services, radiology, infusion services, rehabilitation and cancer care.

The due diligence is expected to be completed within the next few months, with the potential for an agreement to be finalized next spring.
