HUD Announces More than $147 Million in Funding Awards for Senior Housing

The Department of Housing and Urban Development announced awards for several competitions related to its fiscal year 2009 outlays.

For the assisted living conversion program, HUD awarded over $18 million in funding to 5 projects for 105 units.  The program is designed to provide funds to private non-profit owners to convert projects into assisted living facilities.

Over $95 million was awarded fund to 67 projects for 648 units nationwide using the agency’s Section 811 program, which provides affordable housing for persons with disabilities that allows them to live independently with supportive services

More than $32 million of funding was awarded for the Service Coordinators in Multifamily Housing program.  The funds will assist 162 owners who serve 173 projects with 19,195 units nationwide.

The program allows multifamily owners to assist elderly individuals and non-elderly people with disabilities living in HUD- assisted housing and in the surrounding area to obtain needed supportive services from the community, to enable them to continue living as independently as possible in their homes.
