AdCare Health Systems Appoints Martin D. Brew as CFO

AdCare Health Systems, Inc. (NYSE Amex: ADK) has appointed Martin D. Brew as chief financial officer effective June 3, 2011. Brew succeeds Scott Cunningham, who will be departing AdCare at the end of June to pursue other interests.  Brew brings more than 29 years of experience to AdCare with extensive financial management experience at publicly and privately owned companies encompassing real estate, REITs, healthcare, hospitality and private equity industries.

Brew previously served as vice president of finance and provided consulting services at Formation Capital, a private equity firm with expertise in the senior housing industry.  Brew earlier served as treasurer and chief accounting officer at Jameson Inns, a publicly traded owner, operator and developer of 120 hotels with annual revenues of $95 million. Brew received his Bachelor of Science in Business from Indiana University, and is a member of the Georgia Society of Certified Public Accountants and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

Mather LifeWays Hires Vice President, Senior Living Strategic Initiatives

Mather LifeWays recently announced that Kathryn L. Brod will join the company as Vice President, Senior Living Strategic Initiatives to focus on creating innovative new housing models to serve the next generation of older adults through collaboration with Mather LifeWays Institute on Aging, Senior Living, and Community Initiatives staff. Brod will also assist in pursuing strategic collaborations, partnerships, and affiliations with other organizations, including the establishment of a network of continuing care retirement communities (CCRCs) that wish to partner on a range of innovative services and programs.

Prior to joining Mather LifeWays, she served as Senior Vice President/Director of Research at Ziegler for thirteen years. There, she was responsible for conducting all applied research activities for one of the nation’s leading investment banking firms for non-profit senior living providers. She also directed the firm’s extensive educational efforts and led board facilitation for not-for-profit clients. Brod has served as Director of Continuing Care at the American Association of Homes and Services to the Aging (now Leading AgeTM) and Chief Financial Officer of Collington Episcopal Life Care Community, Inc. Brod earned an M.B.A. in finance from The Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania.

Omnicare Appoints Amit Jain to Lead the Sales Efforts for Its Specialty Care Group

Omnicare, Inc., recently disclosed the appointment of Amit Jain to serve as Vice President of Business Development, Specialty Care Group.   Mr. Jain will be responsible for leading the sales and marketing function for Omnicare’s Specialty Care Group and report to Sahney, EVP and President, Specialty Care Group.

Prior to joining Omnicare, Mr. Jain held a number of roles of increasing responsibility for a large global consultancy organization that provides end-to-end outsourcing in the healthcare and financial markets.  In his most recent position he was directly accountable for the operations of the North American healthcare vertical.  Mr. Jain’s strategic sales and marketing plan resulted in revenue growth exceeding five hundred percent from 2006 to 2010.  Mr. Jain has a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from Nagpur University, India.  He also holds a master’s degree in business administration from Grandes Ecole d’Ingenieurs of France.

Legacy Senior Communities Names Goodman Associate Director of Development

The Legacy Senior Communities, Inc. has named Patsy Goodman to the position of associate director of development.  Goodman has held professional positions with non-profit organizations for more than 25 years. Before joining The Legacy Senior Communities, Goodman served Temple Emanu-El for ten years as director of development.  In previous positions, Goodman was director of development at Solomon Schechter Academy (now the Ann and Nate Levine Academy) and served the Jewish Federation of Greater Dallas in a variety of roles on the campaign staff.

Anderson Joins Cushman & Wakefield Sonnenblick Goldman as Senior Managing Director of Senior Housing/Healthcare Practice

Cushman & Wakefield Sonnenblick Goldman (CWSG) announced that Phillip M. Anderson has joined the firm as Senior Managing Director of its newly formed Senior Housing/Healthcare Practice. Mr. Anderson will co-head the practice in the U.S. together with Richard Swartz, executive vice president and principal of CWSG, combining the firm’s robust capital markets platform with Mr. Anderson’s senior housing and healthcare expertise.

From 1999 through 2006, he served as Chief Operating Officer and Executive Vice President of CNL Retirement Properties, Inc., a real estate investment trust (REIT) focused on senior housing properties and medical facilities. In 2006, CNL Retirement Properties was sold to Health Care Property Investors in a $5.3 billion transaction. At the time of the sale, CNL Retirement owned more than 270 properties and employed over 75 associates,.

In 2006, Mr. Anderson founded The Genova Company to pursue advisory services and other investments, which included advising a $100 billion global bank on U.S.  investments.  Prior to joining CNL, Mr. Anderson worked with Hyatt Hotels and the Pritzker family from 1985 until 1998 where as senior vice president of development and acquisition for Classic Residence by Hyatt.

Mr. Anderson has been a member of the American Senior Housing Association since 1994. In addition, he has served as a member of the board of directors of the National Investment Center for the Seniors Housing and Care Industries (NIC) and as a board member to Westminster Retirement Communities, a not-for-profit operator of continuing care retirement communities.  Mr. Anderson is a graduate of Georgia Institute of Technology holding a B.S. with honors in Civil Engineering.

Watermere at Southlake Names Reekie as Sales Executive

Watermere at Southlake has named Iain Reekie as sales executive.  Reekie is a Western Washington University graduate with a bachelor’s degree in economics and political science. He joins Watermere from Lifestyle Communities of Texas LP where he served as vice president of sales and marketing. Reekie also served as vice president of sales and marketing for numerous single family community builders; including Rivendale Homes / Builders Marketing Services, Ranchwood Homes, Woodhaven Homes, Morrison Homes, Beazer Homes and Trammell Crow Homes.

Isle at Watercrest–Mansfield Names Cindy Frazee Community Life Director

Isle at Watercrest–Mansfield, the stand-alone assisted living, memory care and skilled nursing community located on the campus of the active adult community Watercrest at Mansfield, named Cindy Frazee community life director.Frazee joins Isle at Watercrest from Western Rim Property Service where she served as activities director for two years coordinating all recreational events and daily activities for more than 280 residents. Previously, she served as assistant sales manager for Community Phone Book and corporate trainer/area sales manager for Transwestern Publishing.

Di Rienzo Appointed to WellAWARE Advisory Board

WellAWARE Systems has appointed Albert J. Di Rienzo, President & CEO of Blue Highway, a Welch-Allyn company, to the WellAWARE Systems Advisory Board.  His career includes research and development appointments at Welch Allyn, Philips Medical Systems, Siemens Medical Systems, Honeywell/Sperry Aerospace and General Dynamics. Formerly the Chief Science & Technology Officer for Welch Allyn, Di Rienzo was named President & CEO of Blue Highway, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Welch Allyn in 2008, focused on science and technology acceleration for the worldwide healthcare community.

Di Rienzo serves on the Consumer Health World Advisory Board, Cornell University Biomedical Engineering Advisory Board, Johns Hopkins School of Medicine Science & Technology Alliance and Columbia University Center for Advanced Information Management External Advisory Board. In addition, he is also a member of the Society of Clinical Research Associates and one of the Founding Board of Directors for the Continua Health Alliance.

Maravilla Scottsdale Welcomes New Senior Sales Representative

Maravilla Scottsdale recently announced the addition of senior sales representative Lynnette Melbostad.  Melbostad will be responsible for guiding prospective residents through Maravilla Scottsdale’s development phase, and later will help transition residents into the community when it opens.  Melbostad is an accredited Certified Senior Advisor with 28 years of experience in sales.  She holds a Bachelor of Science in Statistics from Iowa State University, as well as a Master of Business Administration in Marketing from University of Phoenix.

Edgemere Names Associate Executive Director

Edgemere senior living community has named Aaron DeNovellis associate executive director.  DeNovellis is a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator and brings to Edgemere more than 10 years experience in the senior living industry.  He joins Edgemere from Kindred Healthcare in Dallas, where he served as executive director.  Before moving to Texas, DeNovellis was the executive director for a Kindred senior living community in Washington state, during which time he was given the 2009 Executive Director of the Year award.  DeNovellis is a graduate of Colorado State University, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Exercise and Sports Science.
