Runkle to Join Park Place of Elmhurst as Sales & Marketing Director

Park Place of Elmhurst announces Ann Runkle as the new sales and marketing director for the Life Care senior living community sponsored by Providence Life Services.  Runkle’s responsibilities include developing long-term strategies to attract seniors interested in the many benefits that Park Place of Elmhurst will offer when construction is complete early next year.

Runkle has been in the field of senior living sales and leadership for many years, and has vast experience in all stages of development, from pre-construction and construction phases to grand openings and operating mature communities. Prior to joining Park Place of Elmhurst, she was a sales trainer and associate director of sales education and talent development for multiple national senior housing developers. She is a graduate of the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Ill., where she earned a bachelor of science degree in psychology.

Omnicare Announces Appointment of Two New Directors

Omnicare, Inc. (NYSE:OCR) has made the appointment of Mark A. Emmert and Barry Schochet to its Board of Directors.

Mark A. Emmert is the President of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA).  Prior to his role with the NCAA, he served as President of the University of Washington (UW).  Under Mr. Emmert’s leadership, UW became a renowned healthcare institution through the establishment of an interdisciplinary Department of Global Health and the creation of the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation.  He has also served as Chancellor at Louisiana State University and the University of Connecticut in addition to holding administrative and academic positions at Montana State University and the University of Colorado.  Mr. Emmert is also a member of the Board of Directors for Expeditors International of Washington, Inc. and Weyerhaeuser Company.

Barry Schochet brings more than 30 years of healthcare experience to Omnicare’s Board.  He currently serves as President and CEO of BPS Health Ventures, LLC, a healthcare consulting and investment firm, and Operating Partner with CIC Partners, a mid-market private equity firm.  Mr. Schochet has also served in various executive roles with Tenet Healthcare Corporation, including Vice Chairman.  He has also served as Hospital Division President for National Medical Enterprises and as Chief Executive Officer of Cypress Community Hospital.  Mr. Schochet currently serves as a member of the Board of Directors for Universal Hospital Services.

HCP Announces Executive Management Changes

HCP (NYSE: HCP) recently disclosed changes in its Executive Management Team that include naming Timothy M. Schoen, Executive Vice President – Life Science Estates, to Executive Vice President – Chief Financial Officer. Mr. Schoen joined HCP in 2006 following a nine year career in Corporate Finance at Kilroy Realty Corporation where he was responsible for capital markets and financial planning and analysis. His five year tenure at HCP includes leading the execution of HCP’s $2.0 billion investment management platform from 2006-2008 and heading HCP’s 7.1 million square foot life science sector from 2008 to present.

During his HCP career, Mr. Schoen has provided leadership in designing the financial reporting and asset management protocols for HCP’s institutional investment partners, had direct profit and loss responsibility for the Company’s life science platform and, through HCP’s joint venture investments, developed a strong working knowledge of the Company’s senior housing, medical office building and hospital property sectors.

Jonathan M. Bergschneider, Senior Vice President – Life Science Estates has been promoted to Executive Vice President – Life Science Estates, succeeding Mr. Schoen. Mr. Bergschneider joined HCP in 2007 as Vice President in conjunction with HCP’s $3.0 billion acquisition of Slough Estates (USA). Previously, Mr. Bergschneider was employed by Slough Estates from 2000 to 2007 during the creation and build-out of that company’s life science portfolio.

James W. Mercer has been named Executive Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary effective July 1, 2011. Mr. Mercer, most recently Of Counsel at the law firm of Bryan Cave, has enjoyed a successful career focused on a variety of legal disciplines including complex business and commercial litigation matters as well as mergers and acquisitions. As a member of the senior management team at WebMD and its predecessor companies, Mr. Mercer renegotiated contracts involving 50 major strategic and contractual relationships with key partner companies.

AHCA Names New Head of Government Relations

The American Health Care Association (AHCA) announced last month that Jeff Myers will join the Association as its new Senior Vice President of Policy and Government Relations.  Myers started his career working in the U.S. House of Representatives for Reps. Don Sundquist and Alex McMillan.  He served as McMillan’s lead health staff during the 1994 health care reform debate.  After Congressman McMillan retired, Myers moved to Rep. Fred Upton’s office and served as his legislative director and health staff for the Health Subcommittee on the Energy and Commerce Committee.

After leaving Capitol Hill, Myers spent 10 years representing the pharmaceutical industry before Congress and the Administration.  His experience includes positions at Hoffman-LaRoche, Pharmacia, and Biogen Idec. During that time he worked on issues as diverse as Medicare reimbursement and coverage, appropriate approval standards for biosimiliars, and pharmacy control issues.

In 2006, Myers was named Vice President of Government Affairs and Public Policy for Cephalon, Inc., where he oversaw every legislative initiative for the midsized pharmaceutical company.  Myers also served as the company’s political action committee chair, as well as a founding member of America’s Specialty Medicine Coalition (ASMC) – a key advocacy arm for the sector.  In 2009, Myers left the industry to start his own cleantech firm, Efficient Photon Delivery Systems and is in the process of selling the company to return to health care advocacy.  Myers received his B.A. from Rhodes College of Tennessee, and his M.B.A. from Duke University.

Gentiva Health Services Announces Board and Management Appointments

Gentiva Health Services, Inc. (NASDAQ: GTIV)  has named Tony Strange, who is currently CEO and President, to Chairman of the Board, succeeding Ron Malone, who remains a Director.

Additionally, Gentiva named David Causby President of the Home Health Division.  Causby joined Gentiva in 2003 and most recently served as the Senior VP of Operations for the Home Health Division. He previously held various positions at Gentiva, including VP of Operations for the Home Health Division, VP of Operations for the Western Region, and VP of Operations for the Carolinas Region.

As part of the announcements, Gentiva also promoted Jeff Shaner President of the Hospice Division.  Jeff Shaner joined the Company in 2002 as VP of Operations at Total Care, Inc., which was subsequently acquired by the Healthfield Group, where he became VP of Operations for Home Health. After Healthfield was purchased by Gentiva in 2006, Shaner served as VP of Operations for the Southeast Region, VP of Operations for the Home Health Division, and most recently, Senior VP of Operations for the Hospice Division.

Constant Care Family Management Promotes Brenda Brantley to CFO and Dave Millheiser hired as V.P. of marketing

Constant Care Family Management announced it has promoted Brenda Brantley to chief financial officer and hired Dave Millheiser as vice president of marketing.

In these roles, Brantley and Millheiser will oversee and develop their respective areas of financial operations and marketing communications for both Autumn Leaves and The LaSalle Group. The LaSalle Group is a wholly owned subsidiary of Constant Care Family Management.

With more than a decade of experience, Brantley will now oversee all finance functions for both Autumn Leaves and The LaSalle Group, including lender relationships, loan originations, equity fund raising, investor reporting and relations, budgeting, asset performance, and corporate growth forecasts. She was previously with Goldman, Sachs and Company for over 11 years, holding various leadership positions and representing investments totaling over $26 billion.  She holds a bachelor of science in business administration and accounting at the University of Texas at Dallas, and an MBA in real estate/finance at the University of Texas at Arlington. She has been with the company since 2009.

Millheiser brings 35 years of marketing and management experience to the Constant Care family. There, he will work on a cohesive strategy to bolster the brand for both The LaSalle Group and its many Autumn Leaves communities across the United States.  He brings vast expertise from notable brands such as Ebby Halliday, Safeguard Business Systems, Direct and TXU Energy, The Associates, Citibank and Dr. Pepper to help him develop the business and marketing communications strategy at Constant Care Family Management.  Millheiser earned an MBA from The Stern School of Business at New York University having done his undergraduate work at Northeastern University in Boston.

Quality Leaders Named as Co-Chairs to Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes Campaign

Dr. Cheryl Phillips and Dr. David Gifford were recently named co-chairs of the Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes Campaign (Advancing Excellence). The two were elected co-chairs by the Advancing Excellence in Long Term Care Collaborative Board. Their term is for two years, beginning January 1, 2012.

Dr. Phillips serves as LeadingAge’s senior vice president for advocacy. Previously, she served as chief medical officer for On Lok Lifeways, the country’s first Program of All-Inclusive Care for the Elderly (PACE) program.  She also serves as chair of the board of directors and immediate past –president of the American Geriatrics Society and  is also past president of the American Medical Directors Association, the physician organization for long-term care.

Dr. Gifford is the Senior Vice President of Quality and Regulatory Affairs at the American Health Care Association and National Center for Assisted Living (AHCA/NCAL).  Previously, Dr. Gifford served as the director of the Rhode Island State Department of Health and was the chief medical officer for Quality Partners of Rhode Island where he directed the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services’ national nursing home-based quality improvement effort.

Mather’s—More Than a Café Director Beedie Jones Receives ‘Honoring Excellence’ Award

Beedie Jones, a Chicago resident and long-time employee of Mather LifeWays was recently awarded the distinguished Life Services Network (LSN) “Honoring Excellence” award.  Ms. Jones was one of eight individuals recognized at LSN’s Annual Meeting and Exhibition in March, at a conference function at Navy Pier in Chicago. Nominations for the “Honoring Excellence” award were solicited from over 520 LSN members statewide. The award program is designed to recognize employees of older adult service providers who put quality first, deliver excellence, and inspire others to do the same.

Beedie Jones has worked and managed Mather’s — More Than a Café on 83rd Street in Chatham for nearly ten years. She’s created and implemented many of the programs that customers regularly enjoy. Beedie grew up in Houston, Texas, and moved to Chicago where she now lives with her husband. “I was speechless when I learned of the award. We, as a team at Mather LifeWays, are successful because we are so passionate about what we do.”

Solivita™ Appoints Christy Haley as Wellness Director

Solivita has appointed Christy Haley as their full-time Wellness Director.  Ms. Haley is a fitness and aging specialist with 18 years in the field and a current Doctoral Candidate in Aging Studies at the University of South Florida. She received her Masters Degree in Sport Science and Sport Fitness Management in 1996 from the United States Sports Academy and her Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Foods in 1991 from Virginia Tech.  Ms. Haley is a member of the Gerontological Society of America and the National Strength and Conditioning Association. She is also a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (NSCA) and Older Adult Fitness Certified by the American Institute of Fitness Educators. She has achieved additional certifications from the Arthritis Foundation.
