Developer to Open First High End Assisted Living Project in June

A new assisted living and memory care residence is planned to open in the heart of Downtown White Plains in June.

The new property will feature a total of 87 suites and room for 105 residents.

The Kensington will be licensed by the state as an “enhanced assisted living” community which means residents will be able to age in place with licensed nursing care available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The Kensington will be the first “enhanced assisted living” community in the White Plains area.

“The Kensington takes the assisted living model of care to a higher level in an environment of comfortable luxury and compassionate care. As a licensed enhanced assisted living community, we are able to offer care beyond what the traditional assisted living community can deliver. This multi-faceted approach is designed to meet the changing needs of residents and their families,” said Celina B. Watson, R.N, B.S.N., Executive Director of The Kensington.

The Kensington provides care for residents with memory loss in two specially designed neighborhoods. The fourth floor neighborhood is for those with early- to mid-stage memory loss while the fifth floor is designed for those with mid- to late-stage loss and is secured to enhance safety.

Health care services at The Kensington include primary care managers for personalized attention to daily needs, monthly health and wellness assessments, medication, diabetes and continence management programs; specialized diets;  on-site physician office and rehabilitation facilities; exercise and fitness programs and art classes. A primary care manager is assigned to each resident, which creates conditions for relationship-based care.

The Kensington, which recently opened its model suites, has been hosting open house events for the general public and health care professionals.

“The response from the public and health care professionals to what we’re offering at The Kensington has been tremendous. There is a growing demand in this market for the kind of enhanced assisted living care that we’ll be offering at The Kensington,” said Ms. Watson.
