What is the state of senior housing design? The Perkins Eastman Research Collaborative, an arm of architecture firm Perkins Eastman, recently released "Design for Aging Review—10 Insights and Innovations: The State of Senior Housing." The 250 page report, produced together with the 2010 American Institute of Architects (AIA) Design for Aging (DFA) Knowledge Community, examines architectural design and best practices for senior housing. The research examines nearly 100 recently developed senior living and housing projects in the US and from around the world and identifies common trends and themes as well as outlier concepts from the report. All of the projects served as entries for the 2010 Design for Aging Review. The study finds an increasing interest in the household model with contemporary designs and more development of senior housing in urban areas among its findings.
