Nationwide Health Properties, Inc. Announces Appointment of Craig S. Jones as Managing Director Specialty Finance

Nationwide Health Properties, Inc. (NYSE: NHP) announced that Craig S. Jones, formerly Chief Executive Officer of Red Capital Advisors, LLC, joined the company as Managing Director, Specialty Finance to lead its new lending initiative intended to augment NHP’s existing healthcare real estate finance product offerings and to develop new strategic relationships.  Prior to his ten-plus years at Red Capital Advisors, Craig spent nearly twenty years at various top tier investment banks, managing healthcare finance groups and developing innovative financing products for the healthcare real estate sector.

"We intend to be more proactive in allocating capital in a focused effort to provide mortgage and other debt investments to existing and new customers of NHP. This initiative will expand NHP’s product offerings, particularly in the senior housing sector where there has been a significant contraction in the number of lenders," commented Douglas M. Norme Torres Named Executive Director of Mather Pavilion

Mather LifeWays has announced the appointment of Norme Torres as Executive Director of Mather Pavilion, its residential nursing care community in Evanston, Ill. Torres will report to David Kane, Mather LifeWays’ Vice President of Senior Living.  Torres brings more than 15 years of experience in healthcare and retirement community management to Mather Pavilion. Prior to joining the Mather LifeWays community, he was the administrator of Center Home in Chicago, a skilled care community with a special focus on the Hispanic population. Torres also has held administrative positions with Alden Orland Park in Orland Park, Ill., Pathway Senior Living in Des Plaines, Ill. and Senior Lifestyle Corporation in Chicago.  In addition to being a Licensed Nursing Home Administrator, Torres has also received certification from the Assisted Living Federation of America University as an Assisted Living Administrator. He is also an Executive Board Member of the Chicago Job Corps Center’s Advisory Council.

Christopher Egan Named Controller For AHEPA Management

AHEPA Management Company has announced that Christopher Egan, C.P.A. has been appointed to the position of Controller for the firm.  Mr. Egan joins the firm with 15 years of experience in financial management and accounting. Recently, he served as a Divisional Controller for Thomson, a global leader in digital technology development. His affordable housing industry experience includes eight years auditing affordable housing, primarily with the firm of Ernst & Young, and two years with the Gene B. Glick Co.  Egan is a life-long resident of Indianapolis, IN. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Accounting from Indiana University, and is a Certified Public Accountant.

              

Economist Chip Case Named Senior Fellow at Harvard’s Joint Center for Housing Studies

Karl (“Chip”) Case, economist and co-creator of the Standard & Poors Case-Shiller Index,  has joined the Joint Center for Housing Studies at Harvard University as a Senior Fellow.  Dr. Case is Professor of Economics Emeritus at Wellesley College where he taught for over 30 years.  Case is also a founding partner in the real estate research firm of Fiserv Case Shiller Weiss, Inc. and serves as a member of the Boards of Directors of the Mortgage Guaranty Insurance Corporation (MGIC) and the Depositors Insurance Fund of Massachusetts.  He is a member of the Standard and Poors Index Advisory Committee, the Academic Advisory Board of the Federal Reserve Bank of Boston and the Board of Advisors of the Rappaport Institute for Greater Boston at Harvard University.  He is author or co‑author of five books and has published numerous articles in professional journals.

“I’m honored by the opportunity to work with an organization of the Joint Center’s caliber,” said Case.  “In the last decade, the U.S. housing market has exhibited unprecedented volatility, and it lies at the root of the very serious problems facing the broader macro economy today.  We need to understand the causes and the consequences of this volatility, and I am looking forward to being part of the Joint Center’s important research going forward.”

Waweru Awarded Honors at Annual Alzheimer’ Association Conference

Legacy At Willow Bend

Monica Waweru, nurse aid at The Legacy at Willow Bend recently won the “Mary and Neil Anderson and Mildred Oppenheimer Caregiver Award” at the Alzheimer’s Association R.J. Price Caregiver Conference awards ceremony.  Unknown to Waweru, staff members at The Legacy at Willow Bend nominated her for her amazing and dedicated work with the residents in memory care at The Legacy. Waweru was surprised as she walked up to the stage to accept her commemorative plaque.

“It was touching to see Monica’s reaction as she received the caregiver award,” said Sheila Campos, director of assisted living of The Legacy at Willow Bend. “She has an uncanny ability to win the trust and cooperation of our Alzheimer residents. She treats them as if they were her own mother or father, which makes her an amazing nurse aid and a valuable team member.”

 

 

 

Gonzalez Named “Outstanding Caregiver” From CALA

Huntington Terrace retirement community’s Patti Gonzalez was the the 2010 recipient of the California Assisted Living Association (CALA) “Outstanding Caregiver” award.  Gonzalez received heraward on October 25th at CALA’s annual Fall Conference in Costa Mesa, Calif.  CALA chooses award recipients based on their commitment to providing outstanding, quality care and service to residents in the Assisted Living communities where they work.  According to Terry Howard, president of MBK Senior Living, the owner and operator of Huntington Terrace, Gonzalez approaches ordinary tasks in extraordinary ways.  For more than 14 years she has cared for residents as though they were an extension of her own family.

 

Terry Holland Joins Amica’s Board of Directors

Amica Mature Lifestyles Inc.  announced the appointment of Terry M. Holland to its Board of Directors effective December 1, 2010.  Mr. Holland has an extensive business background in acquiring and financing businesses in a wide variety of sectors including real estate, natural resources, manufacturing and technology. Mr. Holland is President and Chief Executive Officer of Vancouver based Krystal Financial Corp., which provides ongoing strategic and financial consulting services and capital to public and private businesses. Mr. Holland also serves as a director of a number of private and public companies in a variety of industries.

Prior to Krystal Financial, Mr. Holland served as President and Chief Executive Officer of Trimin Capital Corp. (formerly Trimin Enterprises Inc.), a TSX-listed management company that held equity investments in a number of operating businesses; Vice President of Finance with the Equity Group of Companies which financed public companies involved in mining exploration in Canada; and Vice President, Finance of the Granisle Group of Companies which were involved in the acquisition, development, syndication, and management of commercial and multi-unit residential real estate. Mr. Holland is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of British Columbia and has a bachelor of commerce degree from the University of British Columbia.

 

Woodway Senior Living Announces New Director of Marketing

Denise Irey awas recently named the new Director of Marketing Woodway Senior Living. She is a certified Dementia and Mental Health trainer for the State of Washington and a graduate of Western Washington University in Bellingham, Washington.
