Áegis Living, a national provider in senior living and assisted living communities, announced that it is teaming with industry expert Teepa Snow to help educate people on understanding Alzheimer’s and dementia, more specifically managing the challenging behaviors. She is conducting workshops in several of Áegis Living’s communities, all of which are open to the public and her presentation focuses on helping individuals and families recognize the difference between dementia and forgetfulness, including better understanding of symptoms and behaviors.
"It is incredibly important to me that we do all we can to help individuals and family members learn more about the care and treatment of those living with Alzheimer’s and dementia. And while there is a lot of information on the subject, there is nothing that replaces meeting people in person and listening to their questions and concerns," said Teepa Snow, MS, OTR/L, FAOTA.
Teepa’s presentations include an overview of what dementia and Alzheimer’s is and the normal and abnormal changes that take place in the aging brain. She discusses the common behaviors of people with dementia and the reasons behind them. She demonstrates the importance of using proper communication techniques to achieve positive interactions, and the effectiveness of using communication strategies in creating positive outcomes in interactions with loved ones.
"Teepa is incredibly insightful and the workshops she gives are so useful for everyone who attends. Our staff applies her teachings, especially in our Life’s Neighborhood to make each and every day better for our residents and their families," adds Dwayne Clark, chairman and CEO of Áegis Living.
