The 14th Annual MetLife Awards for Excellence in Affordable Housing is officially open for entries. Enterprise Community Partners and MetLife Foundation have focused this year’s competition on best practices in the area of affordable, independent senior living and environmentally responsive housing. The deadline for entries is Friday, August 14, 2009 and the awards will be presented to the four winning organizations via a web-based awards ceremony, in early November.
"The need for quality, supportive living environments for seniors is growing as the population of older Americans explodes over the next ten years. Decent, affordable senior housing is critical to allowing individuals to age with dignity," said Kimberlee Cornett, vice president for Vulnerable Populations, Enterprise Community Partners. "With this competition, we’re looking for the best examples in the field to exemplify model approaches to caring for elder citizens who have low incomes."
The Awards were created to highlight leadership, innovation, services delivery and effectiveness and quality operations in affordable housing. The four winning organizations will receive $50,000 each in unrestricted funds. Entries must be from recognized 501(c)(3) community-based or regional nonprofit organizations and Tribes/Tribally Designated Housing Entities (TDHES) that are located in one of 14 priority states:
California, Colorado, Connecticut, District Of Columbia, Illinois, Louisiana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Virginia and Washington
Each entry must also include information on the use of green methods and materials.
