The US News and World Report came out with a listing of states that had the smallest percentage of five star rated nursing homes according to the Medicare 5 Star ratings system released last December. With all sorts of data now available through the rankings, this list identifies some southern states with the lowest percentage of nursing homes with a five star rating. The largest state in the ranking was Texas and it identified that just over 9% of the total nursing homes in that state had a rating of 5 stars. The rankings should be taken with a grain of salt since some of the states in the list have substantially smaller populations that others and “amplifying” the percentages based upon fewer nursing homes overall.
