The Calgary Herald ran an article last week entitled, “Senior home care companies booming“, that went so far as to state that many of its home care businesses that cater to seniors are seeing steady growth in 2008. The article focuses on one or two national Canadian home-care companies but fails to provide a broader context of the senior home care market in Canada. The healthcare system Canada does differ greatly from the US where government-provided care is more limited is geared to those seniors who demonstrate the greatest needs. Is revenue growth in senior home-care a foregone conclusion in Canada and the United States, even in today’s economic environment?
