The oft-neglected problem of grandparents raising grandchildren is getting some unique assistance in Milwaukee from a housing perspective. The Milwaukee Journal Sentinal ran a story last week entitled, Kid-friendly senior housing proposed, profiled a development on Milwaukee’s north side that would create a 47 unit, $10 million affordable, senior apartment complex called Villard Square. The project calls for joint funding whereby portions of the project such as the library would be funded by different portions of the city’s budget. The developer is working with local, state and federal agencies to get financing and apply for affordable housing tax credits and hopes that construction could begin in late 2009 once financing is obtained.
