Solar Power Continues To Gain Momentum At Senior Housing Projects

WinnCompanies, a Boston-Based developer of senior housing and affordable housing, recently announced completion of solar power installations at seven locations in the New England area. The installations are on on two projects in the region, one of which is a 75 unit senior housing facility in New Bedford that has a mixture of one and two bedroom apartments and townhouses for residents 55 and older. The solar panels will generate almost a million kilowatt hours of electricity annually for the facilities receiving the panels. WinnCompanies is continuing to build on their sustainable development intiatives by incorporating LEED requirements in their new construction and retrofits into existing buildings. Funding for this project was provided by funds from the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and Connecticut Innovations, as well as the Federal Renewable Energy Tax Credit.

“By installing solar energy at these locations, we are preserving the long term affordability of the developments, and also allowing residents to reduce their carbon footprint,” said WinnCompanies Director of Green Building Heather Clark.
