The Hartford Courant article, Calling Intellectually Active Adults, recently discussed the increasing number of senior communities around universities in the New England region. The article discusses the general trend of an alternative to those who don’t want to play golf everyday and are looking to stay close to their roots while having intellectual stimulation. The article mentioned several successful developments, including one near Ithaca College and Cornell University in upstate New York and another a retirement community in Hanover, N.H., near Dartmouth College that was developed by the Kendal Corp. The company is also developing a community affiliated with Hampshire College in Amherst, Mass. Another senior housing developer, Campus Continuum, a Newton, Mass., firm is planning to develop a larger network of independent age-targeted communities affiliated with universities in the New England area.
