The goal of Varenna, a senior housing project by Oakmont Senior Living LLC, was to create a community that infuses everyday retirement living with the ease and elegance of a five-star Italian resort. The property for the new continuing care retirement community (CCRC) was purchased over two years ago and has two dining areas, spa and exercise facilities, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, movie theater, cocktail lounge, business center, wellness center, library, First Community Bank and post office, country store, salon, spa, art studio and card rooms.

Are seniors going to pay for the pleasure of having Italy in California? Most seniors that I know would rather get on an airplane (assuming the physically and mentally can) and travel, eat and drink their way through the real Tuscany and head back home to Davenport, Iowa.
