Canada’s senior population continues to grow and the province of New Brunswick is experiencing a major shortage in the availability of senior housing to meet the needs of its citizens. The Shannex New Brunswick development will create 216 nursing home beds in the next two years as part of a 3 building campus. The area’s waiting list for senior housing has more than doubled over the last two years and will help alleviate some of the shortages in the area. The facilities will have a retirement home, an assisted living facility and a nursing home all in the same campus. The total investment in the project will be approximately $112 million to complete the construction of the 3 new buildings. The public-private partnership will be monitored closely to ensure its meeting the goals of profitability for the developer/operator and providing quality care through the use of government funds.
