Broome County, in New York state, received $4 million dollars as part of the state budget for 2008-2009 that will allow the demolition and rehabilitation of an area to construct a $70 million dollar nursing home. The new facility will replace an existing nursing home that was constructed in the 1960s and expanded over the years but has become obsolete. The decision to demolish and rebuild was cheaper than trying to retrofit the older facility to today’s standards for care. The 300 bed facility will be funded through Medicaid funds and is expected to bring new jobs to the area.
