The Fontana City Council (Fontana, CA) recently awarded the re-development of its senior center with a $14.5 million contract to Lake Elsinore-based Tovey/Shultz Construction Inc. to build a senior center on the northeast corner of Juniper and Ceres avenues in the downtown area. The two story, 43,000 square foot facility is expected to be completed by the fall of 2009 and will increase the capacity to house and serve seniors in the San Bernadino Valley. The senior center coordinator estimates that the 55 and older population of the town make up over 10% of the cities current population of 180,000. The building will have luxury type of amenities to all seniors with features such as a computer lab, hair and nail salon, and a full service exercise center. Rancho Cucamonga-based WLC Architects designed the center with the recommendations of the current senior groups affiliated with the center.
