Senior Housing Project Rides Development Wave in Arizona

The former Discovery Water Park in Barstow, Arizona is about to get a major make over when it turns from a water park with slides and wave pools into a 1,400 unit gated community for seniors over 50.  Some of the kiddie slides and the lazy river will be kept for resident’s use.  Plans are still underway but the developer expects to have 30 units completed by 2009 and thinks that demand will be strong since the price points for senior housing in California remain high.  Will the rising tide of seniors be too much for this town?  Certainly the grandkids will love the lazy river and the remnants of the water park.
